Sunday, November 17:
Woke up abruptly again to howling wind ripping a canopy to shreds! It was about 4:00 am this time and winds were whipping through at about 25-30 knots, temps dropped about 15 degrees and it was chilly! Our canopies pulled their stakes out of the ground and were all over the place. We got up, got dressed and did our best to collect our site. We pulled the canopy that covered our tent off. The wind pulled all the grommets out and the thing was shredding in the wind. When we got out of the tent, the wind picked it up and flipped it over, ripping the nylon straps staking it down. Luckily, one of the straps held and kept the tent in one place albeit upside down. We stacked enough heavy stuff over the other canopy to keep it from flying away. All the while, Scott and I were laughing hysterically. We were at that point where there was no point in getting mad, and we were belly laughing to the point our stomachs hurt. We got everything tied down, climbed back in the tent, into our sleeping bags, and I realize I didn’t piss, and couldn’t hold it till morning. I had to get out, put my shoes back on, unzip the tent and take a whiz.
I woke up about 8:00 and Scott was still snoring, so I rolled over and slept for another hour. At which point, I couldn’t sleep anymore and picked up a magazine to read. Todd, Anne and Jeff rode over and started chanting, “Wake Up Sleepy Heads!” We got up, got some breakfast, got ready and went for a ride!
Decided to just ride the blue trails since Todd hasn’t fully recovered from an ankle injury and Scott and I were pretty tired from our previous rides. Parts of the trail at this point were so wet; I would venture to say you could classify them as Class 1 rapids. O.k., not that bad, but riding in mud up to my hubs happened more than once! We rode the long blue loop and made it back just in time for lunch again!
Sunday’s lunch consisted of some sandwich wraps (whatever you call them!) They were great, especially the Turkey wraps and the vegetarian with the fresh avocado!
We ate, and then decided to pack up and head out.
All in all we had a blast despite the wet cold weather! Kudos to the SwampClub for a great time, good music and delicious food! A special hello to all our new friends and I look forward to riding with some of you again. Can’t wait till next year’s festival!
Oh yeah, to the people in campsite #17. Didn’t your mama teach you to pick up after yourself? Putting all you garbage in a pile for someone else to collect was rude and inconsiderate. We are privileged to be able to use the state park for riding. If you abuse it, you’ll loose it. Scott and I picked up your crap and took it to the trashcans for you! You’re welcome!
