General Cycling Discussion - DA Rear Derailleur / Ultegra Cogs, Shifters. Any problems????

I was looking at the new 2003 Cannondale R2000 and they have equipped it with a Dura Ace Rear Derailleur but Ultegra Cogs and Shifters. Does anyone see any problems with this combination? Why would they not just put full Ultegra?

I think the only problem would be the weight, if you install aDA shifter it will be lighter, than an Ultegra shifter, ......

People see the D/A derailleur, and assume that it is all D/A....

Cost savings is why. There is no compatibility issue at all.
The most performance benefit will be from the rear derailleur and STI levers. These are the most repeatedly used components that should be the highest quality you can get. Ultegra STI levers are excellent and the DA rear derailleur will give alot of trouble free, smooth shifts.

The Ultegra rear cassette will last longer than the D/A at ½ the price... (No compatibility issues what so ever!!!) ;)

Thanks for all the quick responses. I feel better about the combination now that I know there are no problems mixing the two groupos.

FWIW, the one D/A item that isn't overpriced and that won't wear out quickly is the rear derailleur.

Cogs is cogs. I use Ultegra and 105 cassettes interchangably with my DA shifters and ders.
