A customer gave me his Kenwood VR-4090 and I have replaced my Sony STR-DE635 with it.
I have been playing with the settings and I still have to turn it up to 22(low99-high1) to get the projection I got from the Sony at half volume. The speakers are BIC America Venturi V60s with a BIC center, Bose rears, and a Sony subwoofer. Everything is working. It is clean and sounds very good, but when I looked it up all the reviews were bragging on how much sound you got out of this.
I don't have a remote for it, and judging from the photos of it, there is probably soome stuff I can't alter without it. I am trying to get one or a programmable that "knows" the Kenwood code.
There may be nothing wrong and I am just not used to the different sound but I need some independent confirmation. Thanks, Chuck

Hmm....

This may sound stupid, but are the channels set up correctly? You will probably need a remote for this...if you look on ebay, you can find some All-for-one, Radio Shack, and Universal Remote Corporation (URC) remotes that can probably support your Kenwood.

There is a forum www.remotecentral.com that deals with universal remotes. I would start there if you want a remote. Also look around on Ebay and various online stores for an original remote. Sadly the only price I found for an OEM replacement was $117. It's a rubber button remote with an LCD readout dispaly on top, looks like a universal remote variety.

I also failed to find a manual on Kenwood's website. You might be well off hitting a home theater forum and asking anyone if they have a PDF for the manual they can send your way.

To sum it up, a few things can be wrong:

Bad settings on reciever
Damaged source cables, causing weak signal
damaged input on reciever back, causing weak signal

For the input, you can test this by moving the cables to another input. For cables, just get a cheapo $2 pair of cables to test it out, or use a spare set you might have laying around. Settings require the manual or lots of experimentation to see if you can adjust it from the reciever face.
