I just got done watching Beijing Bicycle and I had my heart ripped out and hid under the covers alternating for the entire movie? Poor guy loves his bike so much, but then they take it! Everytime they got ready to take the bike or wreck it I felt awful for the guy. Bastards! Then, at the end, when he is walking off with his bicycle on his shoulder I wanted to cry. True Love or Friday the 13th?

We rented this, but it seems like many of the subtitles were missing.
That poor kid. Getting in a fight in China sucks - everybody throws that Karate crap at you.

The subtitles on the DVD I checked out fromthe library worked just fine. It's a great movie about someone who truly loves his bicycle. His bicycle makes a huge difference is his ability to make a living and his status in society.
In another thread, someone said it was loosley based on the Italian movie, The Bicycle Thief. I need to get that one from the library, too.

Hey, damn spoiler!!! Mods should delete thread.
Not really- the events leading up to what the OP revealed are not discussed, nor the explanation of that revelation. As long as it stays that way, I don't really view this is as a movie spoiler.
Just don't venture anywhere past that point, and everything will stay cool...

Not a spoiler thread! trust me, this isn't your typical Hollywood formula movie which is spoilt by just knowing what categogory it's in.
Enjoy it, and be prepared to want to watch it again.

I live in China 9 months of the year, and what actaully happens is you go to the neighborhood bike shop (every street has one) and get yourself a bike for about $100. Gets stolen. Get another. Again stolen. $50. Again stolen. $12. Its a keeper. Goes just as fast (8-10 mph is average there) as any other, and doesn't get ripped off. Ugly as hell one-speed Giants, but they get you there, and they're still there when you want to go home at the end of the day. Its commonly accepted that the guy that sold you the bike is probably the same guy stealling it back.
Whats kiiling the bike in China's cities is the skyrocketing affluence of the 25-35 year old set that are buying cars and ditching bikes. Seeing traffic jams of oil burners on the same roadways that were jammed with bikes jsut ten years ago is more heart breaking to me.
