So I'm riding back home from campus on the far right side of the right lane. Then some car comes speeding up behind me, almost clips my back tire and honks. There isnt much I can do since there are 2 other cyclists (going about 10mph slower) about 20 ft ahead of me. So being the nice guy that I am and not wanting to slow this car down I speed up more and pass the 2 cyclists. About 5 seconds later the car honks again and passes me with less than 12 inches to spare. The passanger (girl) screams "MOVE" as they pass me.

**** her.

I keep going keeping an eye on them. They get the red light and are about 5 cars back from the light. I keep going and pass them and the 5 cars ahead as the light turns green.

A little later they pass me again and pull into the CVS parking lot. I pull up behind them and the girl sees me waiting behind their car. She keeps looking back at me and back at her bf. I didnt want to scare her so I smiled and made the "roll down your window" motion with my hand. They both exit the car and I said, "Would you look at that, we still both got here at the same time."

silence from her for about 5 seconds followed by, "whatever"

Then i rode away.

I should have fallen in front of their car and gotten killed, that would have showed them!

you should have peed on their car once they went in.

At the light you should have walked directly up and over the top of the car, jumping once or twice on the roof as you went.

I have a bit of a temper problem.

you know they might still be there, its only 2 blocks from here! i toatly had time to spit in her face as she said "move" but that is assult and i would rather be a smart ass and stumper her enough for her to reply with a "whatever" then have to deal with an assult charge.

yeah i wonder what her and her bf said after i rode off? they were probably all like "well.... you know... i guess he is right....(shrug)"

cause its not like i made anything up like "your mom is a *****" or "you look like crap" but what i said was the truth and they knew it. you cant screw with the truth ya know.

although it would have been so much funnier if you had her roll down her window and said "your mom is a *****"

For short trips, even if you're able to sustain a higher speed, the time savings are minimal. For instance, going 30 mph in a car, for a 3 mile trip will take you 6 minutes. Going 15 mph on a bike for that same 3 mile trip will take you 12 minutes -- a whopping 6 minutes later.

All that aside, it's astounding to me that people get so worked up over losing 10 seconds to a bike on the far right lane. If you're so concerned about 10 seconds, stay in the left lane, for crying out loud.

Something tells me she didn't get it. Way to go, I'll have to borrow that sometime.

yeah that is what im saying. im gonna start passing flyers to cars that honk at me saying "im sorry i made you a whole 30 seconds late to wherever you were going."

they're the people who find things to get worked up about anyway. it's self-imposed aggravation that will probably kill them with some kind of stress-related heart failure early in life. i do it myself when i'm driving, which is why i hate driving.

Earlier this week (In NYC). A car making a right turn narowly
missed a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The pedestrian starts
yelling at the car, car slows down, pedestrian runs up to the
passenger side window (window is open about 3 inches),
Pedestrian yells at the lady driver and proceeds to pour his
Dunkin Donuts coffee into the car and runs off laughing! I just
smiled and went to work.

What I especially hate is when cars brush passed me or double yellow line to beat me to a light that is red. That really bothers me, so when I get to the light, I always get infront of them and look at them like "what were you thinking?". Same concept.

You could construe her actions as vehicular assault. Tit for tat I say!
actually (while I occasionally spit in driver's faces, I'm not the most mature), I generally pass up honking cars then move directly in front of them and slowly weave across the lane. I find that gets your point across. If they inconvenience you by honking or nearly hitting you, inconvenience them.

but even if she hasnt thought about it since 2 seconds after it was still worth it.

Is there any other choice? Sidewalks riding is illegal on Guad. I would have figured anyone who has driven the drag before should KNOW the rightmost lane belongs to cyclists even if it's not marked. (in other words this driver was one stupid *****.)

the problem with guadalupe is that it was conceived when Austin was a much smaller college town and was not intended for close to that volume of car traffic. (but isnt that the story with every Texas cityroad?)

I'm kind aglad the only major artery I ride on a daily basis is Congress. Tons of room for cyclists, although they tend to take the neighborhood backroads... Oh and the traffic weaving near Riverside/Barton Springs is easy as pie.

No. It's illegal for a reason: kids have died doing that. Just take the lane. Screw that gutter of a bike lane (on both sides). Your safety is worth more than anyone's convenience.

oh I totally agree. Not only as a cyclist who abhors sidewalk riding (except when I'm on my mountainbike. I ride sidewalks on that because I feel funny huffing and puffing slowly on the road), but there is FAR too much ped-traffic to ever validate sidewalk riding there.

I am about to go ride on that same deathtrap of a road. Anyone with me? We can go Laugh at the people riding mountain bikes on the sidewalk.

you mean he didn't? i usualy just let the air out of their tires enough so that they can't notice, it lowers they're milage and they never notice way. muahaha sometimes, if i can open up their gas hole thingy i pour my water in. ofcourse i always do this while no one is watching. im a bad bad person. muhahaha

P.S. I only ever do this when it's a hummer or someone who totaly deserves, i wouldn't have done this in the OP situation, only if like they do something really really f*cked up

Some guy honked at me today, I flipped him off, he yelled at me from his SUV, I called him a "big man" he boxed me in, got out of his car to tell me it was illegal for me to not be in the bike lane and asked me if I wanted my ass kicked. I told him to have a nice day and called the cops.

There must be something in the air today in Austin. I just got a cup full of ice thrown at me around Guad. and Airport.

I was cut off on Gaud today. I had to slap the trunk of her car and push off in order to avoid going down. There definitely must have been something in the air. The problem is that it is always in the air on that street. That street which happens to be the main drag running beside a major university. Funny how that works.

Just today I saw a cyclist riding the gutter on Lamar southbound, and I so badly wanted him to command the lane. To ride in the gutter is just asking for trouble.

a good retalition, i've never done it, but if you find yourself in the same place as someone who either almost hit you, brushed you, or just honked and yelled would be to just let the air out of thier tires while they're in the store, i don't beleive that you've done anything illegal, you haven't damaged anything but you sure as hell ****ed up thier day, they may not know it was you but who cares, sometimes *******s deserve to be treated like *******s, though i've never done it, i'm better at yelling back and then as they roll up the window i like to spit, but that's me

This summer I was at university for a few months in France. The dorm buildings had these little locked up bike garages with some crappy bike rack inside that I would lock my bike to. Given the crappiness of the bike racks I would lock at 2 places meaning my bike took up a little extra space. For some reason this dorm also rents out rooms to random people, so there is this man and woman (a couple), also staying in the building. I guess they were on a ghetto vacation or something where they stay in a concrete block full of students... Anyways, this guy has a rental moped scooter thing that he decided is important enough to also put into the bike garage. One morning I come to pick up my bike and he accosts me and tells me that my bike is taking up too much room and that I am being a ******** a*shole. I am taken slightly aback so I tell him that this is a garage for bikes, not for mopeds, then I tell him his moped is crappy and doesn't even need to be locked up. He swears at me some more and I leave.

I lock up my bike in the same place again later thate evening and in the morning I come to unlock and the air has been let out of both my tires. What a french jerk.

Needless to say I deflated his tires as well. And I'll bet he didn't have a portable pump like me. I had to keep my bike in my room after that...
