Advocacy & Safety - Bicycle related deaths

If there is anybody at this website that doesn't wear a helmet, please tell me, that way I know if I'm talking to an idiot. 62% of all bicycle related deaths are the result of no helmet. Get a clue, and protect your coconut.

Now that is constructive!

BTW I am a big helmet fan for cycling and skiing....

Helmets will prevent certain head injuries (the reason I wear one), but offer no substitute for sensible cycling.

If we can assume from your figures that 62% of bicycling deaths were caused by not wearing helmets, can we assume that 38% of the deaths were caused by wearing helmets?

As your high school science teacher probably taught you, be careful how you interpret data.

AH, I'm just giving you the rasberries. I always wear a helmet too.

I think Mike has raised an interesting little quandry here. Does this all mean that only 38% of bicycle deaths were caused by crashes? And how does one classify the fatal crashes where the dude didn't wear a helmet? and...

The best way to go at this one might be to gather data on the percentage of crash survivors who wore helmets compared with the percentage of crash survivors who wore lycra.

Wear a helmet. Cycle sensibly. Do it all.

I've only had two crashes worth mentioning, (both endos), but both times I felt my head bounce off the ground. I'm a believer! :eek:

Reminds me of Mohammed Ali. Even when you walk away from an accident, if you get your cranium pummeled often enough it may cause problems later on.
