I guess I'll get the ball rolling on an answer. Depending the original price on your DF bike will make a difference on the trade in value. If it's a cheap bike to start with they probably won't consider a trade in. The thing is you won't get a whole lot even if your trading a recumbent for a newer one. They have to go over it maybe replace worn out parts, and make a profit on your old bike or it would'nt be worth their time. Pretty much like trading in your old car. I asked for the heck of it on my old bent and the guy said I'd be much better off selling it myself. So this spring I guess I'll be trying to sell my tailwind.

I traded in our DF Trek tandem for a recumbent tandem (Rans Screamer). We received 50% of what we paid for the Trek 14 years ago! We believe this was quite fair as the trade in value was deducted from the purchase price of the new bike before taxes (15%) Stoker and I certainly don't regret making the change from DF to Bent.

NO, SORRY! I didn't need to "trade in" any of my trusty steeds. I DID get 2* USED 'bents from the LBS though.
The first was a Challenge Hurricane for $600. (1996) Apparently a guy brought it to the East Coast (of USA) and rode it to California. He sold it for cheap to the shop. The owner had it hidden in the back and waited for me to come by. When I saw it, I bought it on the spot. Still have it & the rack and the saddle bags.
The second was a Greenspeed GTX the above mentioned shop had posted on their buletin board. (2005) It was well equipped (as in EVERYTHING!) for $2,900. Wow, that's a DEAL. So I took the number. 4 months later, after stashing all the $ I could, I dialed. AMAZING! The seller still had it. Then he recognized my voice. It was an old neighbor that I hadn't seen in several years. He said that he would rather give me a deal on it and know that it was going to a happy home, than to sell it to "just anybody". Final price; 2 grand. (trike, fenders, heartrate wireless computer, rack bags (3: 2 panniers & a top-of rack bag), Kevlar tires, 2 mirrors, headrest, 2 blinkies, disc brakes, Schlumph MtnDrive w/flappers & trouser guards. Oh, and a flag!

SOOoooo, keep your eye out for any local bents and DEAL!

* The Hurri' was my first 'bent back in '96 & the GTX I got last May. Between those two 'bents I have owned 30+ others. That's why the GTX got a "happy home".

Actually it was the reverse. My lbs which sells both recumbent and specialty uprights took my like new Burley Jett Creek in trade for a Breezer Uptown 8 purchase. I think it took him while to resell the Burley which was in perfect condtion with only 600 miles. Outstanding LBS in Northern VA.

I am doing this exact thing. I will be trading in my DF bike to the bike shop where I'm buying my EZ-3 AX.

Yes. When I bought my Vision I traded my TREK road bike for it. My LBS gave me $200.00 toward the price of my Vision for the TREK.
