Im FINALLY have enough $$$ for my new frame but im stuck inbetween 3...
Fit S3 Aitken 20.75" in black
S&M L.A.F 20.75" in black
The Take Ivy 20.75" in Pearl.

Im sort of being confused by all the different gemetry in the frames and company reputation...
After being on the Fit and S&M site the S3 seems almost the EXACT same as the L.A.F frame...
Im not concerend with the weight of any of these frames seeing as how there all 5ish pounds or lighter which is plenty light.

I ride mostly trails and the occasional park(pegless) and pegless street(consists of banks and gaps and such...)

Price is not an issue, i have enough money for all of them, i just want to know which one is best for me.

THIS IS THE LAST THREAD I WILL POST ABOUT THIS I PROMISE!

I havn't had expierence with any of them, but I have heard only good things about all of those frames. Good choices.

I was pleasently surprised at the Fit frame, normally I don't care for their products, but that frame seems sweeet.

Fits stuff is good, i have never heard anything bad, excpet for that there bars were bad, but ill be gettin Slams soon...(and i have Medium bars now)

So what was your pick? Fit, S&M or The Take?

Well, I don't want to say which one you should get, or which ones better, because I have no more information than hear say, and my own personal opinion by looks/ and or how I like the company.

But anyway, just what I think. I would have a hard time choosing between the LAF and the Fit, I don't like the Ivy for some reason. Again, don't ask "How many have you seen break???", because I havn't, I just don't like it for some unaparent reason. I would say I like the S&M because I trust it more than fit when it comes to frames, and I like that sick headtube design they have on it. The Fit I like because it comes in blue, and it's lighter(i'm not a weight freak, but it is nice to have a lighter bike. My bike is like 33lbs and I am getting kind of sick of it, so maybe that's why I like the 2 ounce difference or whatever it is), and I beleive the Fit has a shorter rear end than the S&M, and I like tech, so I like that. And they both come with Mid BB, and integrated headtubes, so that's good.

Wait, I guess if you get the S&M with chainstay brake mounts it's 2 ounces lighter than the seatstay, so it would end up to be the same weight of the Fit, so never minn about the weight thing if you're thinking about getting chainstay brake mounts.

Thanks for your input, i dont mean to peck at your thoughts, but i dont care much about the weight of the three, considering there all 5 lbs and under also Fit frames are made at the S&M factory, so really as far as the LAF vs. the S3 its mroe of the stickers and look, because the geometry is the same...exactly....Im leaning towards the S3 in Black 20.75" but...SOMEONE HELP ME!

Black is sooo 3 years ago...get it in blue. Hahaha just kidding man, get what you want.

And according to Dans(which I do not trust, nor am i beleiving or doughting you at this point) says that the LAF has 14" chainstay, while the S3 has 13.75. I guess it doesn't matter realy, if it's right or not.

if you wer gonna post you shouldve just answered the question.

why dont you try cj's laf.
if you like then get it. if you dont then thats just one frame out of your decision from the 3.

and you said you were leaning towards the s3 over the take.

so obvioiusly the choice is between the laf which you can try out. or the s3.

i would go with laf since you'll actually be able to see what its like before you buy it.

i rode Cj's LAF...it was nice, but it was 21"...
The REAL battle now is the LAF vs. the S3 (even though there sooo CLOSE)

True. but when you think about it, the dropouts have to be around an inch long so...i can place the wheel on the S3 at around 14", it just wont be from the middle, same goes for the LAF...I think...

Those measurements are from the center of the dropouts...im pretty sure...

S&M LAF VS. FIT S3

Pain4Pleasure

ive riddin both, there both really comfortable and feel really solid. my friend is rockin on a s3 and he hasnt had any probs with it, while my other friend managed to put a dent in the laf on the top tube, it "might" have thinner tubbing , i personally liked the way the s3 felt, and it has a down tube gusset which doesnt hurt. my choice would be the s3

KinetikBiker
03-05-06, 02:27 PM
yeah, im leaning towards the S3 kinda

Reasons:
Mike Aitken. nuff said
Better colors
Dropouts arent ulgy like the LAF...
Mike Aitken rides it
Mike Aitken Rocks.
oh and
i Can get it cheaper from a local bike shop...the LAF is more for some reason...

CMcMahon
03-05-06, 04:24 PM
If I remember correctly, my LAF has a 13.75" rear, not a 14". If that's true, then the main difference between the S3 and the LAF is that they have different dropouts, and that they S3 uses thinner tubing.

MadMan2k

I haven't ridden either of them, but I saw the LAF frame in the shop.. pretty sweet

actaully most websites should say somthing to the effect of "back end: 13.4235" - 14.32497" (random numbers) this means that when the wheel is pushed up against the where the dropout is connected to teh chainstay then its the smallernumber and where its about to fall out its the bigger number and anywhere in between is anywhere in between thowse two numbers

yes, but when they only give ONE measurement its from the CENTER of the droupout...

JUST SAYIN!

Will i be okay with thinner tubing? (no pegs, and mostly trails) (not much to dent my frame on besides logs...)

CMcMahon

As long as you don't nosestack, you'll be fine.

KinetikBiker
03-07-06, 02:58 PM
Nosestack reffering to where (as we call it) "nosecase" (hit your front wheel on the back of the jump and DIE)

This is the 1st frame I've dented. I have snapped a few frames though (street jumping).

What frame do you have? Is it a Fit, or even an S3 for that matter?

Just wondering...

CMcMahon
03-09-06, 02:28 PM
He rides a Redline Mega-X or Double-X, if I remember correctly. So, if he's snapping those (with their super oversized tubing and whatnot - and I doubt that hes actually snapped them), he's not half as smooth as he claims to be.

KinetikBiker

Prozakk

You said you snapped some frames "street jumping" (whatever that means). What would those be?

All cheap Wal-Mart crap. That's when I weighed WAY less than 1/2 of current weight.

Street Jumping: The beginning of the ramp & the landing place is street. Come on, you're slippin'!

CMcMahon
03-09-06, 03:03 PM
Are you trying to tell me that you snapped a frame hitting a curb cut?

Prozakk
03-09-06, 03:06 PM
No. Flat, plain ol' street surface.

CMcMahon
03-09-06, 03:08 PM
So you snapped a frame jumping off a ramp made of plywood, supported by cinder blocks?

edit: Or are you saying that you snapped a frame bunnyhopping?

Prozakk
03-09-06, 03:08 PM
Plywood & 2x4's.

CMcMahon
03-09-06, 03:11 PM

No.

CMcMahon
03-09-06, 03:16 PM
Well then what the hell are you talking about? I can't remember the last time that I saw a plywood ramp just sitting on the street, as part of your regular street furniture, alongside the fire hydrants and benches.

The pic was to show you the ramp. Put the w**d away.

CMcMahon
03-09-06, 07:02 PM
Well, I guess that the point of all my bickering was to eventually make the statement that ramps are not street, and that ramp riding is not street riding (or, as you put it, street jumping).

I will now make that statement. Ramps are not street, and ramp riding is not street riding.

Prozakk
03-09-06, 07:08 PM
The ramp is setting on the street.

You approach it via the street.

You land on the street.

MadMan2k
03-09-06, 07:13 PM
IMO, street is riding what you can find (usually on/near a street...), without modifying it (well, boards to ride a handrail or whatever might count, depends on who you ask).

CMcMahon
03-09-06, 07:15 PM
That's funny, because it looks to me like you'd land on the ramp. And, by your argument, if I was to set up a box jump, a spine, and a pair of quarterpipes in the street, it would still be street riding, as long as there was pavement between them. Is that correct?
