Hi, I'm going on vacation soon and need to ship my track bike across the country. I've got a standard bike box and have been (mostly) following the directions listed here: http://bicycleswest.com/page.cfm?PageID=168

The problem is, however, my wheelset obviously doesn't have QR skewers like most other bikes I've shipped. I'm afraid my frame is going to shift around and get scratched up by the rather pointy nuts and axles. I've thought about shipping bike + wheels separately, but there's got to be a better way.

How do you do it?

i would completely (as much as possible) wrap the frame in something, the best thing i've found is that pipe insulation you can get for 1" (ish) pipes.

Good idea! I just spent the last 30 minutes covering the damn thing in bubble wrap...

You also want to tie everything together, if they shift as one then they don't bump into each other. Then cram some paper in so it can't shift. Then cut the sides off another bike box and stick them on either side to prevent poke thru. It will ship at the max weight anyway because of the size. Make sure the demension around the box(top+sidex2) plus the length is under 130"
