my easton aluminum dura-ace seatpost is finally breaking apart. after a crash on the weekend (drunken track standing foolishness) the head seems to have swivelled around a bit. not only does it look all messed up and twisted i am worried about it's structural integrity. i love the seatpost but don't want to be impaled! is there any way to twist the head back into place on the post? anyone have any experience on this one? shoudl i just ride something else instead?

i wouldn't have thought you'd be impaled. i'd keep on riding it. its pretty unlikely that under normal riding conditions the clamp bit is going to pop all the way out of the post...

it may pop out who knows...i just don't like riding with the words "catastrophic structural failure" running through my head. how's the weather in london these days? i'll be there on friday...

Seems several others have had the Dura Ace post fail on them.

It's a shame, too... such a pretty seatpost.

i wonder if the problem was corrected? i bought this post NIB off ebay. the year it was made was never mentioned. perhaps the 2006 version is fine? was there a bad batch of glue one year??

edit: maybe the warranty will work out. it's almost brand new and all DA stuff is a 3 year warranty. i don't have a reciept, but it's worth a try...maybe i'll get a new post.

Riding on a post that's already partly failed is a BAD IDEA!!! Especially given those reviews.

once alum is bent, it is done. kaput.


it has thousands of micro cracks in it now,
all of them racing against each other to
split the post

It looks bent as well (from the reflection). I would retire that thing ASAP.

Wow, some negative reviews. Get a different seat post. Don't take a chance.

i just checked it a lot closer. the glue that runs the length of the tiny seam where the tube meets the head clamp is almost all gone. looked dry and brittle...i'm going to clean it all up and send it back.

If you crashed, the warranty probably does not cover the damage.

someone (bifff...your frames look amazing!) pointed out the tube was bent. it's not. everything is fine with the seatP.O.S.t besides the clamp which has twisted around. whatever is holding the head clamp to the post has weakened (glue in this case i think). wow, we are putting this seatpost under intense analysis!! thanks for the insight.
