Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - How to FIX a coaster brake or SS freewheel ?

Ok, I want to start a project with a cruiser ...

I am not really sure how to do it... but ... I want to know if its possible to convert a coaster brake hub into a fixed gear?

How can this be done ?

Also, if I end up with single speed cruiser, how can I convert the cog into a fixed gear setup ?

I've read of people using JB weld... How does one JB weld the actual freewheel cog ?

for a coater brake you take apart the bub and fill it with cement, rebuild it and viola!

or you just go buy a formula rear hub

for the freewheel to fixed, you would remove the freewheel and replace it with a real track cog and torque it in place with lots of JB weld or strong loctite. Add a BB lockring to the remaining threads for extra insurance.

Or buy a Formula rear hub. They're really not that expensive. If you have $130 to blow, you can buy a brand new wheelset (both wheels) with formula hubs front and rear, 2mm spokes, and Mavic CXP-22 rims.

I was under the impression that the threads on the freewheel side were different than on the fixed side ... ( I have not tried to thread a cog on the non FG side of my suzue )...

I guess I should try it !!!!!!!

My idea was to keep the stock wheels that came on the cruiser so I can use fatty slicks.

The cog/freewheel threads are the same, but the fixed side has reverse threads for the lockring, the freewheel side does not. This is why it's common to use loctite or jbweld when putting a cog on the free side or on a freewheel hub.

Now it seems like it would be easier to buy a cruiser bike with a freewheel on it instead of a coaster brake...

This seems like the easiest way to convert it to FG ....


... so where can I find a cruiser without a coaster brake ! dayum !!!!!!!

cruiser conversion? cool. i saw one on the FGG a little while back, and it looked like a ton of fun.

It seems like every single low priced cruiser comes with a coaster brake...

I've seen some on ebay that have semi-vertical style dropouts.. this really sucks !

I DON'T want to have to buy a new hub, I want to do it myself @ home with JB KwiK or something similar.
