:D Well, sold the Mazda, and not only that, i'm gonna be moving two blocks away from work next month. How sweet is THAT? I feel great to be doing this, the river and a major park are literally going to out my doorstep, I can actually sleep in, instead of getting up at 6:30-7:00 every day....the only downside is it will be a little farhter to the local grocery store, but ah well, you can't have your cake and eat it too!

I don't know. I really don't envy you too much. Sure, you can sleep in, but I enjoy my bike commute to work and home. I'm actually thinking about moving a little farther away so I can have more commute time. But that's just me.

But congrats if this is the move that you wanted to make for yourself!

I live about 1 mile from work so I make up a route that ends up being up to 15 miles and then down to 1 on my lazy days. I'm pretty disciplined now (I was a lazy stump) so 6 of 7 days I'm riding at least 20-25 miles total to and from work. The upside to the grocery store is that you can get some cool grocery bag panniers. I'm always looking for an excuse to buy panniers

But he can still ride as much as he wants to! He just doesn't have to get up as early to do it. :)

I guess I don't get it because I ride as much as I want too. Commuting is part of it sometimes, but other times, it's not. But I still ride when I want, for as long as I want.

It just always seemed to me that the less time I spent commuting by bike, the more time I had available to do the things i really want to do. Like ride my bike. . . .

Um, I guess it does sound kinda stupid when you look at it that way! :D

Well, you know us carfree folk are very self-reliant. I don't need anybody else to make me look stupid. I'd rather do it myself!

Well, in the neighbourhood, there are tons of trails, and like I said, one of them is right across the street...So I guess if I want to, I could get up a little earlier some days, go for a good 30-45 min ride, then come home, shower, and take 1-1.5 mins to walk. :D Overall, i'm happy with it. I know a guy who commutes 27 miles each way, every day, rain, snow, whatever mother nature throws at you. Now that's hardcore.

That is sweet. It's amazing how people do just the opposite and look for ways to mover FURTHER from their place of employment. Hopefully, this trend will end.

I'm actually looking to move further from work to but will still be dependant on trains to get to work. In fact, I won't move to an area unless there's a train nearby that will take me to work. I refuse to board buses.

I'm moving about 2km further from work in the summer. I'm looking forward to the slightly longer commute, even though it means I'll have to get up earlier than before.

Now, if only I could convince myself that I CAN go car-free... Blasted Canadian winter...

There are some Canadian car-free-ers around here - PatC, and I think Mountain Mike? Roody is in Michigan, may be similar weather. (I live in Colorado, at 8000 feet, but I'm also in the Banana Belt, I've got great weather.) Don't be afraid to ask around for advice on ditching the car in Canada.

edit: Duh, the OP is Canadian too. And by the way, where is PatC? I've been here a little sporadically lately, but I haven't seen any posts from him.
