My friend asked for photos of my new bike and I went a little overboard, wish I had a studio to take better, but I liked the close-up component shots, somehow this all looks sephia'd ... must be the lighting. Hope you like them!

Very artsy indeed. Hope you enjoy riding it as much as you do showing it off!

Incandesent lighting with the camera's white balance set to daylight or flash will give you this color. Try running them through any of the photo manipulation software packages and fix the color. You will see a world of difference.

I have to admit, I like the look of those bottle cages on that frame. What kind are those? Are they the inexpensive nylon/composite type?

Nice use of aperture to get that depth of field :)

They look sort of like the Specialized Rib Cage, or rib cage pro?

What is the black PVC tape for on the brake calipers?

That is to protect the finish of the brakeset while in the box. It should be removed.

Thanks for the compliments so far. I can't take much of the credit, alot of the angles I saw on the Flyte website gallery. Also, my digicam does a really nice macro focus - doesn't handle light too well though, so lots of thanks to WheresWaldo for the tip of doing some touch ups in photoshop, it cleared out a lot of sephia-like effect. I didn't notice the tape until the photos came out ... the tape is actually close to the color of the calipers. I'll take them off tomorrow.

The bottle cages are Specialized Rib Cage Pros, not carbon or anything, just plastic, but I've seen them on some bikes where they look good and the silver matched really well. Tonight was delivery night, the bike sat on the trainer for a bit while I fiddled with fit and got used to speedplay's. This weekend is forecasted 65 and 70 degrees, can't wait to ride!

Pretty cool. Add a couple more light sources to get rid of the shadows and it'll look good enough to frame! :)

Did they do a proper fitting? I am guessing yes since you have a Specialized saddle on there. I am guessing it is a 143 rather than a 148 though as they don't make a 148.

Great looking bike...glad you found one that fits you properly...it can only increase your enjoyment of the sport.

Yeah the only real suggestio I had was to change the white balance as well. They have a very yellow cast. Are you iusing a canon?

Nobody has hung him yet on the non-flipped stem?

I assume rpc is a "she" from the wsd of the frame. I can dig the higher stem if it is more comfortable. I would remove the wheel reflectors and the little plastic guard inside the cassette (that doesn't guard much of anything). Congrats on a classy looking bike.

To heck with all that other junk, what are those bottle cages ??? :D

Seriously though, what are they? And do they come in Salsa Blue? Mmmmm.... :p

Edit: Just saw the earlier posts about the cages, might have to get me some. Rats, just after I dropped a big six bucks for two blue Trek cages on eBay :( ....

I'll add them into the component list since they've pushed such a response! Specialized Rib Cage Pro's $20 each, but the LBS threw in free water bottles, so ... maybe $12 / each?

I'm actually a he, but 5'4 with a 29" inseam and 130lbs ... the fit on it was the best of all the bikes I tried (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=176718) . I'm relieved it didn't come in girly colors like other WSD bikes. Interestingly, the C'dale website geometry specs for the 50cm WSD and the 48cm regulard R700 are exactly the same down to a 1mm.

My apologies for the "him" comment then. Definitely go for whatever is most comfortable. I just noticed that no one had not said anything yet about the stem. You know how people can get. :D

+1 on the big chainring though.

BTW: That's a mighty fine bike.

No appologies necessary ... if I wasn't upfront about it, someone would've eventually found out that the blue only comes on the WSD model ... getting called on that is much worse than being told to "flip it" :D

I am getting a free professional fitting on Sunday from Capitol Hill Bikes in DC, this bike fit so well from "factory" on a 10 mile test ride that I thought it would be the best starting point.

Nice angles and the lighting is pretty good for a single flash.

Point source flash lighting always makes for harsh shadows. I find that metallic and shiny objects show up better if you use more diffuse light sources. You could use a large (1x1m) white card as a reflector or tape some scrunched tissue paper over your flash source to spread the light.
Also, if you leave some distance between the subject and the background you can eliminate more shadows. A small depth of field can be used to throw the background out of focus.

Thanks for the tip on the tape on the 105 calipers. I was trying to figure out what the hell that was for (I just bought a new bike with those same calipers and same tape) ;)

DannoXYZ
03-07-06, 01:46 PM
The tape keeps the arms from rubbing against each other and scratching when there's no cable installed to keep them separated. :)
