just wondering if bike forums should create a category for people who want to meet other people who have a passion for cycling. any thoughts.

I was thinking less of a dating thing, more of a riding partners thing. You could post if you were looking for people to ride with in your area.

ok. the other day i was doing my normal route and passed a girl that was obviously into cycling that i may have been attracted too. i thought, wow wouldn't it be nice to have a mate that was into cycling as much as i was! just thought it might be a topic worth discussing.

Nothing personal, I'm sure your intentions are pure, but personal ads on the internet are just a magnet for pedophiles. If you want to meet people with a passion for cycling, join a cycling club. That is where they hang out.

I can see it now:

Middle aged Lawyer, slightly overweight rides a $13k Serrotta only wears Assos. Looking for 22 year old with great body and low standards.

Or:

Mid 20's Neo-Pro 6'1'' 120lbs. Works part time at LBS, rides 40+hours a week, still lives at home. Looking for totall hard body with a mothering complex (I need you to take care of me). Must be willing to put up with being third in line behind my training and my bike.

Doesn't the existing category "ride partners" fit this bill? A new one just like it would be redundant.

Ride partners are exactly that, people looking for some local
to ride with.
We (BF) aren't really into nor do we wish to become cycling singles,

while I agree that there is a need I think it might be better serviced
at Bicycling.com ?

ok that is not what i meant. perhaps i am a naive but haven't any of the single people out there (avid cyclists) thought they were going to meet someone that was into cycling (based on the regular match.com type of personals) only to find out it was someone who rarely rode and wasn't really have an interest in cycling?

so can i assume you speak for all of bike forum!!! now that is really presumptuous on your part!!! anytime someone uses a "we" instead of "i" when voicing their own opinion i know that "i" am in trouble.

Not such a great idea. It's like 99% dudes on here. It would be a sausage fest - bunch a guys standing around and as soon as a girl walks in . . . . .

SWARM!

I think an online dating service with a notation that you're interested in cycling is a better plan.

My wife has no interest in cycling and I'm sooo glad about that. Just think if we each had training bikes, racing bikes, track bikes etc etc - there's no way we could afford 2 of everything.

1. BF has a Ride Partners forum.
2. BFers tend to get together for the bigger charity / organized rides (MS150, STP, etc) and post in road forum with details.

Online dating is the lamest idea ever. You might as well admit that you are 30 years old, live in your parent's basement, and play World of Warcraft all day long.

If you have to resort to the internet to pick up chicks you suck at life...

Try www.fitness-singles.com or prowl the group rides hosted by your local bike shop ;)

Ok, seriously, I'm thinking Match.com is probably the best way to get coverage. Just make it really clear in your profile that you're looking for a cycling nut.

Not true!! Its just a newer way for people to meet people. Hundreds of years ago (and still today in India) most marriages were arranged. Times now are different, and any new tool for singles to meet other singles is welcome. 50 years from now, Online dating will probably be considered old fashioned!

Hey come on now I've got the basement fixed up real nice! Besides no one make a grill cheese like mom!

What's this World of Warcraft you speak of, mom doesn't let me play video games she says they rot my mind.

I'm 26, have my own place, and work for a living - I don't date co-workers. I moved from where I went to college so I don't know many people here. Also, I don't want to go to a bar and pick up some alcoholic chick who thinks 10 miles by bike is just too much.

Not that I'm actually successful in internet dating either ... most chicks on there think 10 miles by bike is too much too!

Best place to meet girls (and people in general) is starting to be the Critical Mass rides and bike shops. Man, I wish I were back in college ...

thanks for the input. some very constructive and some really immature as well. i guess i should have expected as much. i was going to contact the site administrator before i posted this thread, could not find a way of doing so, to broach the idea and see if the board thought it might be a feasible project because of the mix of people on bf. it appears that my idea may not be a good one afterall.

It's just not going to happen.

Bikeforums is a venue for people to discuss bikes, not hook ups. So Lotek is 100% on the money- the admin of the forum will not have this additional forum. There are other places out there where you can meet cycling people for dating and such- try cyclingsingles.com.

We're dedicated to cycling on bikeforums. Cycling= yes. Hookups= no.

Unfortunately, I do have an account with them. The guy who started the site came to me and explained he wanted to start a ride partners website, so I joined. Little did I know it was going to end up being some "hey, I'm looking for a hookup" site. Uuugh. Gross.

If you have to resort to the internet to pick up chicks you suck at life... sounds perfect for Euro. If he got a date maybe he would be more pleasant. Where is Euro, by the way? Maybe he found a mate.

...girl walking in. Not such a bad idea actually, but would be hard to moderate (weird ppl out there). I can see my ad now: 30 something who commutes by bike (even in rain) refuses to use a car unless she has to.

Yeah, they are beatin' down my door at the "traditional" dating sites! Better to find partners here through bike clubs or if you notice some girl walk into a dating thread.......
