Alt Bike Culture - Center Steering as first alt bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Ok, I admit I'm really intrigued by the Monty for its minimalist elegant simplicity and collapsable storage size. So, I am thinking about trying to build one as my first bike project, again because it's simple and small. Does anyone have experience with center steering (i.e. no hand control, steer with your feet). It looks like this could be done fairly simply with three 20" forks, a recumbent seat, a bottom bracket and a internal gear with back pedal break wheel. Can anyone offer some advice?

Hi, I'm also planning on building a bike, but mine will be a normal short wheelbase recumbent. At timies I have considered building a python center-pivot type bike, but I've been afraid that I would build it as my first project and it would be unridable! I really like the concept, but I'm just afriad I would get frustrated.
Never the less, my fears are unfounded, so I think if you have interest in building one, you should do it! On my recumbent, I want the best of every world, like suspension and for it to sit low to the ground. However, I think I'll discard both of those and replace it with something that is easy to build.
So basically, I don't have any advice other than if you have the motivation to do it, then do it!

I don't know anything about these kinds of bikes, but I just noticed your avatar and wanted to say that Red Meat is probably one of the funniest comics I have ever read.
