When a rider earns the yellow jersey during sometime in the race, but does not finish as the GC, can he keep that jersey by right?

Obviously, the rider is not the final winner of the yellow, but for domestiques like Victor Hugo or Thomas Voeckler, wearing the yellow for a day is the biggest accomplishment of their career and would obviously like to keep the jersey on the wall as a memento.

The rider gets to keep which ever jersey he earns. There are rules about when he can wear it though. For example, during the Tour De France, riders try to make sure that two are not wearing it at the same time when it changes riders; so there won't be photos of both riders in yellow. The podium ceremony doesn't take place until the current yellow jersey wearer is over the line and changes into his regular team jersey, then the new rider will be presented with the day's winner's jersey.

One of the big point of conversation during the 2004 tour when Voeckler wore yellow for 10 days was that he now had one to keep for himself, and nine more to give to each of his teammates.

Followup question.

AS amny are aware when the same rider is entitled to multiple jerseys he wears the more important one in the actual race and the second place rider in the other jersey competition wears that jersey.

Does a rider who wore a jersey on the road because of being in second in that competition keep it. Is it valued almost as much as if he wore it by holding it outright?

You mean an actual yellow jersey, not a replica? Is it signed? How did you get it?

Not signed. The USPS image came ironed on, so I assume it's the real deal. Lance is a friend of a friend of mine. You should see the "swimming hole" on his property. Amazing.

The knee surgeries put me down for a while and the jersey was sent to me as a "pick me up". It hangs on my wall along with a yellow replica and a replica "motorola world champion" rainbow jersey. In the same package I recieved a pair of Disco bib shorts with the letters "L.A." on one of the tags. Not sure if those are initials or mean "Large Adult".

The Jan- man I can't believe (literally) all that stuff on your blog. How much time do you spend creating all that?
