@ Pricepoint.com... Topic of "normal" looking SPD shoes seems to come up every so often so I thought I'd post these (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail.htm?stylePkey=14200&offer=EM063EM2). 30 bucks for a set of SPD shoes that you can wear to the bar or around campus. I've already got a pair of the sixsixone launches but I think i'll pic up a pair of these at this price.

Enjoy.

Van also makes a cool clipless spd shoe though I don't know where you'd find it.

Along the same topic...what do you guys think of these as entry level pedalshoe combo?

From the website:
Question:
If I order qty 1 of the Sette Rival Shoes do I get 1 or 2 shoes?

Answer:
You will get 1 pair (2 shoes) of the Sette Rival Shoes if you order qty 1.

Wish I had money. I've been loking for a good pair of sandals.

I didn't see any skate style ones on there, just MTB ones. Anyone got a link?

I haven't heard anything good about Wellgo pedals. I'd steer clear if I were you.

+1 on Adidas' style. I've got these, and they're perfect for not looking like a bike dweeb when I'm at the bar or whatever.

i can't find anything about them on google or anything. not on the vans site, either. of course, after about 3 minutes on the vans site, i decided it wasn't that important to me.

note: i never said they looked as good as a pair of slip ons.

i wish they would make a slip on with a deliberately tough bottom sole and stiffer inner sole padding for bikes. the market is totally there for a limited edition... and if you make the colors wild, you'll sell the rest to sneaker heads.

im fairly certain that those vans are impossible to get now. i have been searching for them for about a year now and no place has them, they come up on ebay every once in a while but they are never my size.

MLPROJECT

i know dans comp has them off and on, but i haven't checked there until right now and they're out.

damn, $30 is mighty cheap. I suppose nobody knows if these run "wide" or "narrow", do they?

i can tell you that they look like a pair of soap shoes or heelies

I've thought about converting normal shoes to clipless before. Imagine making a rigid plastic insole into which you could screw cleats, cutting out a cleat-sized hole in the sole of your shoes, and slipping in the hard plastic cleat-retaining insole...voila, clipless vans slipons. You could start by cannibalizing an old clipless shoe.

I'm not a shoe designer or an engineer, or anything. I'm just thinking out loud.

i think the only problem with this would be no rigid connection between the top of the shoe and the makeshift insole... unless you had some velcro cinch on it or something. you'd just be losing energy pulling up on the canvas upper all the time

True. But that would only be a problem for fixie riders- freewheelers would only have to be able to clip in, pedal forward, and be able to twist out. Then again, twisting out would also require a rigid upper.

Vans slipons, though, are about the least rigid shoe you can find. It might work with other shoes that are more rigid without any mad max monster-shoe treatment. Fun as that sounds.

I'm def liking those adidas minrett. I've been meaning to get a pair of the older ones, but the 06 are much more to my liking. I don't mind rocking running shoes looking ones. I don't like the skate shoe look of the vans... too bulky.

rvabiker
03-07-06, 10:53 PM
It would be a problem for everyone...one of the reasons clipless are so popular is that they are so efficient. You can pull up on them whereas platforms don't allow you to do this.

I have the adidas ones, in baby blue, people love them.
and I got them at nashbar for $19.
Those other ones look like I'd have to wear my helmet all the time.

wow.. Im def. picking up a pair of those that the OP mentioned. They may look TOO much like skate shoes, but for 30 bucks, I think theyre a great deal.. and they actually come in 13's, Which is surprisingly hard to find
