Mountain Biking - Saddle recommendation for a 6'2" 210lb question?

I am 6'2" and 210 lbs. I currently have a WTB rocket V race saddle which is fine for short rides. But It's a bit hard and narrow for my size and weight. Does anyone have any recommendations for a lightweight comfortable saddle,maybe slightly wider. that won't break the bank?

Have you looked at the Specialized Rival 143? It's not squishy soft, however, I find the Rivals to be a much more comfortable saddle than the WTB Rocket V something or other I recently replaced.

Saddles seem so personal it is hard to make recommendation that make sense. One man's comfort is another man's a$$ hatchet. It isn’t exactly light, but I like the Brook B-17 narrow saddle. I am about your size and like it a great deal. BTW, hard and soft are not great indicators of saddle comfort in my experience. Some of the most excruciating things I have ever sat on were plush, gel covered torture devices.

I haven't found anything that holds up too well to repeated crashes, but most saddles have a cover that I would guess is less resilient than leather. Leather is pretty tuff. They use it for motorcycle gear for a reason, I figure. The Brooks is thick, I would guess you could scuff the hell out of it but I would be surprised to see it rip. A little shoe polish and it is good as new! I'll be honest, though, and say that I don't do a great deal of riding that leads to many crashes. You can get them for $60 at Nashbar and they might be an option to consider. I think they look cool on certain bikes, too.

This gets to be a real personal question. It all depends on how far apart your sits bones are and that changes with your position on the bike. I'm about your size, a few pounds heavier, but just a fat cruiser-weight but I race so need a relatively narrow saddle. Everybody's mileage will vary.

Specialized actually makes a rig for measuring your fundamental aspect (thats without anyone needing to reach down there with a ruler) and they sell saddles in different sizes to match.

Even if you don't go for the measurement, check out the saddles, good stuff.

Don't go too heavy on the cushioning, it'll compress and put pressure on the parts that don't need it.

We make saddles specific to rider weight when ordered. Check out the site it may interest you. Unfortunatly, because of the customization they may break the bank.

I liked my selle italia slr, but it's pricy and I broke it, so I'm not buying another one to break. Though the one I got was used. I'm about your size, same height maybe a bit taller about 10 lbs lighter. I'm running a fizik pave now though. It's a bit narrower than I'd prefer but I'm out of the saddle most of the time anyway.

the Speed V is slightly wider tha the rocket or stealth at the rear and still has the same comfort on the nose and middle areas. I have a race and the comp, sport versions are inexpensive. the race is steel railed instead of titanium as well so even though a bit heavier, they will hold up to us clydesdales

The Specialized Body Geometry saddles are comfy. I'm using a Rival also and love it - stuff doesn't go numb. :D

Saddles are a pretty individual thing - there isn't one solution that works for everyone. That said, those BG saddles are pretty damn good. The Rival w/ Cro-mo rails is about $60 direct from Specialized.
