I would like to take an opportunity to mention Wayne and
"thetouringstore.com" His website is a great source of information
for racks/panniers. He is personable, knowledgeable, prompt and fair.
I stongly recommend this business. I think it would be nice to have
a thread or threads where we recognize/acknowledge people, businesses,
etc. we have been impressed with....tom

Tom, I have to second your kudos to Wayne at the Touring Store. He is very knowledgable because he is a cycle-tourist and former bike shop owner. Wayne runs his business the way businesses used to be in the "good ol' days", where the "customer comes first". For Tubus racks and Ortleib and Lone Peak panniers, Wayne is the guy.
Very satisfied customer (several times),

This sounds pretty good but for this sort of stuff I always go to Rivendell for obvious reasons.

A few months ago I ordered two Ortlieb handlebar bags (one for me, one for my wife) from Wayne at thetouringstore.com. I installed them, then promptly decided to switch to butterfly handlebars. While reinstalling the mounting hardware I used all my strength and cranked down too hard, stripping two of the four mounting brackets.
Wayne guaranteed them, no questions asked.
Where else do you get that kind of service? I got the feeling I was dealing with a neighborhood bike shop owner...one with a phenomenal knowledge of panniers, packs, racks, and all things touring.
I was glad when I saw someone had thought to mention such a good egg!

I got my panniers and racks from Wayne a few months ago as well. When speaking to him on the phone about the order, he mentioned that he was considering venturing into trailer sales as well (BOB trailers if I recall correctly). After looking at his website and ebay store, he hasn't yet started on it. Wonder if he is still looking into it or not.

got my bags and my rack from him.
He was so helpful, I was on the phone with him for at least an hour working out how to get a rack on a bike with no real way to put a rack on it...
i just got off the phone with wayne. he was awesome at helping me finalize my pannier choices. and his prices are so much better than anywhere else!

Wayne is the epitomy of customer service. He sent the wrong fork clamps and had the correct ones to me in a few days and told me to keep the incorrect ones. He loves the market he caters to and believes in what he sells.
Regarding Rivendel, I can't think of any obvious reasons. I buy the odd part from them from time to time but they are pricy and their stuff is....dated. They don't even sell panniers. Why?? Who knows.

He has done an excellent job of developing a targeted internet business - focusing on a niche, serving it well, and allowing the word to spread. Tough competition for those still paying for bricks and mortar.

More good news on Wayne. I just bought two sets of Ortliebs from him. Good prices and good customer service. It's nice to deal with people that care about their products.
