Mountain Biking - Sad story.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My friend Joel had his Azonic Steelhead stolen from his LOCKED shed last night. His new fork was on the way...a bit useless now.

It's times like this that make me support the legalizing of booby traps. You break into my shed, you lose an arm.

How can people steal things like that? It's sick. If I ever see the guy riding his bike around, I will actually go beat the living **** out of him and return his bike to him.

Yea, I feel your pain, bro. My riding buds SC Chamaeleon got stolen. He had just gotten the bike two months ago too. Was worth about 2900 new. I dont even know why someone would want to do something like that. Just... why??

Some-odd years ago in the Denver area there was a man who owned a warehouse that was being repeadedly burglarized. He rigged up a shotgun in a window. Soon after, the thief returned and was killed by the trap. The warehouse owner was convicted of murdering the thief (it may have been manslaughter, but I recall murder, I think). I can't find the article and it has been a while, so another local might be able to correct me on the details.

It depends on the area. It's generally considered to be self defense or other legitimized violence only when defending a person, rarely property. So, a trap is considered illegal. A well trained dog is about the only legal 'trap' you're allowed to have and the property must in many areas have a posted warning if the property owner doesn't want to get taken to court over intruders being harmed. (Warning: I am not a lawyer just a big legal-self-defense proponent, many generalizations made, et cetera.)

that shot gun thing sounds amazingly awesome, I would have given the guy two pats on the back for that rigging.

I agree, I would have congratulated the guy. Seriously, I don't think those thiefs should even exist on this planet, the thief got what he deserved.

Drugs. Sadly most home burglaries occur to support some loser's addiction. My Blur was stolen out of my house and was in the hands of a dealer that very day. It p*sses me off to know that my bike (to him) was worth only a lousy hit!

There are some stories about that...rigging up a shotgun to the door of a house, robber opens the door, gets his head blown off, and the robber's family sues the owner of the house (and wins).
A better one is a robber breaking his leg while robbing a house, suing the homeowner, and winning.
