Band of Gypsys was buddy miles, billy cox and hendrix.. -What is your point exactly? That since it was a trio, it was somehow ''was not his own'' -(?) ..Hendrix wrote every song they played, except for ''them changes'' . . -and without hendrix's guitar their could have been no ''machine gun'' nor ''hear my train a' comin'' nor ''power of soul'' etc. . You are without a point, you are pointless.. sorry, -but that's just what you are..

Heh.. I am never without a point.
If you can't find the point then that be you. I never have felt the need or urge to explain things to people.
I merely lay down a few things & if someone can't pick them up due to some sort of handicap then that is their problem , i am not going to pick it up for them.
Yeah , here is yet another funny "That since it was a trio, it was somehow not HIS own"<:roflmao:
I guess it would have been the same without buddy cox & billy miles because hendrix was there:D

Whatever there redhouse.

Yeah whatever suit yourself. If you cannot find a point in what was being typed & being mentioned. forget it. oh by the way , without buddy miles or billy cox there would have been no gypsys either:rolleyes:.
Regardless of that, he was not(or still is) the most influential.
There is a lot of techniques & theories still being used today born of that era.
It is all argumentitive & he certainly was not a "guitar god to omg"
HIghly overrated:rolleyes:

Yes, seeing as how buddy miles and billy cox were 2/3 of the BOG.. it follows that without buddy miles and billy cox there would have been no band of gypsys, there would have only been hendrix.. yes, very good, -however utterly devoid of meaning is this revelation.

People like Satraini -(or however his name is spelled) or Van Halen can do one thing and one thing only -that is; really fast picking & fret tapping... -thats not music though, thats pure technique.. -a computer could do that. If you want to see technique (i.e. really fast mind warping playing that is 20X faster than satriani and van halen combined) and musicianship, -then Vernon Reid of ''living colour'' is the man. Neither satriani nor van halen could hold a cupcake b-day candle to him.. not even.

GEEEZ!:roflmao: DID you or did you not STATE that it was his(hendrix) own in a sarcastic sort of way:rolleyes: Make up you mind:) .
Devoid of meaning , is it!:p :)
regardless if you realise it or not, technique is EVERYTHING(regardless if it is unorthodox or orthodox)
I saw living color before & to be honest, i didn't think much of them.
Both those people above you mention saitranee:D & eddie van halen can play slow with "musicmanship"
:bday:
PS.... I personally don't care for VH . I think sammy hagar wrecked himself joining up with them . his music was far better beforehand

Then I guess player pianos are incredible ''musicians'' -I mean their technique is flawless and the equal of any pianist out there.. right?

Umm.... Anyone ever heard of or seen a guy named Yngwie Malmsteen play? I have. He is a virtuoso and can literally play the guitar better with one hand than anyone else mentioned on this thread so far. His vibrato technique and arpeggio technique is unrivaled. His Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar is masterfull! That said he is not my favorite guitarist, but he most definately is a guitar god.

Guys I think are/where great for one reason or another and in no particular order:

Neal Schon
Andreas Sagovia
Tony MacAlpine
Yngwie Malmsteen
Jimmy Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Akira Takasaki
George Lynch
B.B. King
Muddy Waters
Kenny Ayen Sheppard
and a unknown fellow named Jess Seda

Link Wray
Danny Gatton
Chris Spedding
Michael Bloomfield
Roy Buchanan
Walter Trout
Gurf Morlix
Popa Chubby
Cub Coda
Evan Johns
Frank Zappa
Ian Moore
Junior Brown
Wayne Kramer
Rory Gallagher
Gordie Johnson
Tim Langford

So many great guitarists out there! Personally, I prefer a guitarist that is original, but also fits in with his or her band, and doesn't stand out based solely on solo histrionics.

Michael Schenker of UFO. EVH's hero and the most melodic lead player I've ever heard. Personal problems prevented him from beinga household name..his brother Rudolph of The Scorpions isn't half the player of his big brother but he's made 20x the money and fame...:(

Malmsteen was brilliant on his first album (perhaps his first two); after that he spiralled into self-parody. But, yeah, he had originality, and chops. Then everyone copped him, and he proved a one-trick pony.

Eddie...oh boy. So sad. He showed up to Dimebag Darrel's funeral and made a complete ass of himself. Could this be the same guy who wrote the riffs to "Top Jimmy"? Terribly sad.

I'm a metal fan, so there's no shortage of guitar wizardry in my playlist. I'm wondering, though, about pop music. What happened to the guitar? Has it really devolved into the banality of Creed? Has the solo yet made a comeback?

I'd ditto the Michael Schenker comment. I think I'd put Uli Roth in there as well. For sheer tasty-ness of soloing, I'm not sure one could surpass the neoclassicisms of Andy LaRocque, though; also, Alex Skolnick's early work in Testament.
