Next week I go from evening shift to day shift. It means changing the times I am on the bike, and a whole new set of problems, different traffic problems, different commute problems. Any one have a similar experience? Is there a preference to when you'd rather ride to and from work?

Hi Naisme, I work alternating shifts of days one week then afternoons the next and they DO present different problems.

On dayshift I go to work at 6.20am which means because there are not many people about I can use the pavement(sidewalk) to miss out 7 sets of lights which is bliss, but it also means that most drivers are half asleep, so to be honest it's the time I feel most vunerable, on the same journey on afternoons(2.20pm) I take back streets that add sometime to my journey but at least I'm still moving and not stuck at lights.

On the journey home I prefer coming home at 3.00pm rather than 11.00pm, coming home from afternoon sucks, it's dark, I'm wary of drivers who might have had too much to drink and of course the dreaded Friday night commute, which involves running the gauntlet of abuse from people coming out of pubs:mad:.

The one thing I find helpful on dayshift is to have everything lined up ready to wear the night before, and yes that does involve two set's of clothes if I'm not sure how bad the weather is going to be. though I've lost count of the times i have made a drink for my water bottle and left it on the kitchen table ( a habit that never happens on afternoon shift only dayshift:confused: )
