Commuting - Your ideal commute time

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
What is your optimum time to commute, if you had druthers?

Since I've only bike-commuted during first shift, that's what I voted. So I'm no expert on swing-shifts.
But when considering the possibility of riding in the dark with drunk drivers on the road, I think I prefer dealing with the usual rush-hour crowds.

Given some of the neighborhoods I ride through on my route, I avoid midnight rides there.

:) I didn't vote.My commute starts from 2:00am to 4:00am it depends if I'm stopping at the gym to work out.I ride home at 2:00 pm and Yes I do worry about DUI drivers. But the weekdays(am) have very very little traffic its like you own the road.

I work part time, and so I have done swing, day, and overnight. I'd much rather ride during the day, you're easier to see and there do not to seem to be as many dui drivers out there... also 'rush' hour traffic seems to be more predictable...

I didn't vote either, I get to work steady days, but they're long ones. (and dark ones these days) I leave about 5:45am, usually get home about 6:00 or 6:30 pm. It's not all work time, when riding I have a combined commute, 25 minutes bike, 35 minutes driving each way.

To be honest I'd rather not have to commute at all. The term "commuting" implies that one must eventually go to work at some point, and I'd rather just keep riding perpetually!

I second that!
I like swing shift since I can sleep in.

I like riding to work at 7 a.m. Coming home at 4 p.m. is a little hairy though, lots of traffic and wild students on the road at that time.
