I think we've had it for freezing temps here in the midwest (Chicago area). Anyone else concur??

It may indeed. in the meantime, I'll just pretend it's spring! ;)

Winter is definately over for me! I went for a 2hrs ride yesterday and today also for the first time in 2006! It was -5 celsius, but I was properly protected from the cold and the sun was shining! Woooohooooooo 9 more months of cycling before winter!!

oilfreeandhappy

March and April are the months we get the most snow in Colorado. It snowed most of the day today. The pavement was warm, so it all melted, but there's a glaze on a lot of the roads, now that it's getting colder. Not too bad to keep me from biking in the morning though.

I have noticed Chicago always seems to be the opposite weather year after year. If you remember last year, it was cold until the end of April. So, I think it will get warmer earlier this year (starting now?).

This is the time of year I start dressing for the temperature I wish it was, instead of actually is.

Bekologist

I usually end up the winter season with a Fourth of July ski trip on Mount Adams, a Northwest volcano with one of the 50 classic ski descents in North America.

'winter' might be coming to a close, but the skiing's usually still good till then!

I think the Northwest will see slight amounts of lowland snow around Portland and Seattle by the weekend.

I'm going to do a bike-n-ski blitzkreig tour this month. Maybe this weekend.

jaypee

I'm noticing some birds already coming back so I suspect it's getting close.

DEK

No, I don't. In fact if you check the 10-day forecast for the Chicago area, there's snow forecast for next Tuesday. Nope, we're in for at least one more big blast before the end of March. :(

halfbiked

March will be March. Up here its 46° right now, but there's a predicted low of 18° coming up next week. I bet I have to snowblow one more time (though only had to twice this year).

Gojohnnygo.

I'm siding with Machka :roflmao: YEAH RIGHT :roflmao:

It might be warm now. The next thing is a huge dumping of snow with cold temps. We won't get out of winter that easy.

DCCommuter

Yeah, there's a haze of green in the trees now. It's time to put away the studded tires, and leave the Winter Cycling forum for the annual migration over to touring. See everyone in the fall.

Just because winter seems to be over, doesn't mean that summer will arrive before mid July !

Its just begun here in Calgary....

Ours was over in December or before it started. Strange year, but I ain't complaining.

Yes ... up here in Red Deer, it just keeps getting worse and worse!! I'm really beginning to wonder about getting my March century in, and I thought that one would be a piece of cake!!

GreyGoat

was 70's here today.. but i wont say its over yet.. and i wont pull the studdeds for another week.. black ice threat isnt over yet.. if it keeps up like this another week.. ill start swapping gear.. i have to say i missed the cool air riding in 70 degrees today.. i like it cooler.. and i sure dont look foreward to over 80's.. let alone all the bugs and pollen 8-(
winter rocks!

CBBaron

Upper 60s yesterday and snowing this morning. Winter isn't yet ready to release it grasp. The 10day has snow until next Monday. After that I would put it better than 50% we won't see any more snow, but you never can tell.

We got 8-12" of the white stuff yesterday. Now everything is buried in slush.

I hope that was the last of it.

jaypee

Hmmm.. another 4-6 predicted here. The snow we've received this week probably exceeds what we've received all winter.

I love winter. I love my Lake MXZ-301's. They're super toasty.

AndyGrow

Not a chance in hell. It's not June yet!

Portis

I took my studs off the other day so it CAN'T be over.

Machka

It is STILL not over here. :( I'm starting to panic a bit about my March century!! I figured it would be no problem at all, but I'm actually faced with worse weather now than I was in December, January, or February. :(

DataJunkie

We are getting hit by small snow storms once a week. Winter is not over until mid to end of April. That and the minimum temps are still below freezing. Of course, the warmest minimum temp I have seen in the last several weeks is 27. Not that far below freezing.

Walkafire

Been great weather huh Junkie?

Funny when I wake up at 4:15am and look at the Temp Gauge and it reads 32 F (0C) and I say to myself... ah great it's WARM outside! woohoo

March is our Wettest Month of the Year. Let's gear up for some slush ridin!

It just keeps getting worse and worse!! :(

Hmmmmm ...... maybe I can send this all east though so some of you can share in my misery!! :D Don't pack away the winter gear yet!!

I just put my winter bike away so I know I'm in for it. (Winnipeg)

Yes you are!! It's here now ... and it is heading your way!! Enjoy! :D

As of last week, we're still having snow about 1X week in some form or another. It doesn't usually stay.

penanaut

Now you gone and done it! You know that when you take the studs off it's gonna snow like crazy! What were you thinkin'? ;) In Minnesota we know March is when the trees try to bud up and the humans get restless with some sun poking out. Then it just creams us. The studs are staying on mine for a few more weeks so I can continue to commute. :D

He he. 32F is quite warm. At that temp I could ditch another torso layer.

I bet you are looking forward to Monday's morning commute. 10-14 inches of snow expected. Now if they actually have the forecast correct.

Forecasts call for up to 12" of snow here in the next 24-48 hours. Note to self: Never take studs off bike before May.

First ride home in a while, felt tropical at 40+, but still cold 20's F in the am. A coworker of mine lost his heat due to mixup will oil company, and his pipes froze. Winter ain't over if your pipes can freeze ;)

Mild Al

I kept waiting for winter this year, but it never came. Today was about as bad as we've gotten--low 40's and drizzle. Stimulating, but not painful.

Yan

Snowed in Toronto again last Thursday. It's only a few degrees above freezing right now. So much for "April".

Machka

It's not bad here right now, but I'm still not committing myself to the idea that we might be done with the snow.

What is Winter?

Boudicca

Snowed in Toronto again last Thursday. It's only a few degrees above freezing right now. So much for "April".

But it was only half-hearted snow. And today was perfect. OK, another degree or two on the plus side would have been even more perfect, and a warmer wind too while we're at it, but I ain't complaining.

penanaut

Well, I finally took off the studs today. I have been lazy and have been riding the studs for two weeks too many. It will be a faster commute tomorrow! Whheeeeeeee!

fruitless

I took off the studs last week and sure enough. . .it snowed about 4 or 5 inches Sunday and Monday. It all melted and the road was dry tonight though. I expect to see a goose any minute but its still a couple weeks until ice out and I generally don't get the good road bike out until May 1. Its sorta over.

GreyGoat

It's over and done here.. I miss it already.. back is the pollen and the bugs everywhere.. and soon the comfortably warm temps will give way to the heat..

yukon biker

no, let it snow let it snow let snow

Gojohnnygo.

Time to turn the air conditioners on and hibernate for the summer with lots of ice bags. I like it at –20 below.

yukon biker, Have fun with all that snow I miss it.
