Hi Gang,

Is anyone disgruntled when they eat a hard unripe piece of fruit?

I just ate a hard plum and my tummy's aching now :(

Rich,

Are you feeling any better yet?

In the USA, in the monomaniacal pursuit of wastefulness and inconvenience that typifies our marketing methods, they've taken to gluing a little paper or plastic label onto every individual piece of fruit.

This means that you can often judge the hardness of the fruit by whether your fingernail digs very far into its flesh in the half-minute or so it takes to (attempt to) remove the label. In cases where the label must be cut off with a knife, you get an even better notion of the fruit's ripeness.

P. S. Rich, I hope your tummy-ache is gone by now, and would also like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to post my 200th message here.

I love Unripe fruits, especially bananas. I dig it when they still are green.

Congrats on your 200th post Jon. Keep on Posting...

What??!!?? That's when they are at their best. I can't stand when bananas are all brown and mushy.

Green bananas make my mouth itch. It's difficult to scratch, too.

At least with bananas (the commodity that seems to have test-marketed the stick-on label concept), you can easily discard the skin, label and all. On other fruit you have to work at removing the label: have Stanley knife, dry-cleaning fluid, sandpaper, protective eyewear etc. ready....

Yeah, the string things bother me with bananas. It's as though the banana lacked self-respect somehow....

Mine too. I thought I was just weird or something. Especially my lips itch. It's like an allergic reaction.
I'm with Badger, just a hint o' green. Seems there's only a couple of days when they're perfect.
Is this still BikeForums.Com or have I stumbled onto GallopingGourmet.com? :)

Banana's are the best. But not when they are unripe. Just a little hint of green is best, as badger said, but I've seen them completely green and they don't look to tasty. Banana's seem to digest quickly though, and if you do like Joe Gardner and mash them up into pudding, then there are no stringy things to mess with, you don't have to peel them, and they are a poor man's power gel(not quite as thick).

Rich, I feel your pain dude

Just for my own reference what fruit is high in "self-respect"?

A banana that can stand proud and tall, with no strings attached.

There seems to be much debate on this...

As we're now a part of Europe, the funniest thing to come over is that our supermarkets are not alloed to sell bent cucumbers...

They must be straight!!!

Nuts or what??

p.s. Thanks Pete, my tummy is much better :)
Jon, how many posts!!!! Nice one!!! :D
