Just wondering which is better; singletrack or mammoth? Experiences with either?

Singletrack. No personal experience with the mammoth but I've heard bad things about them warping.

I've heard more about people destroying single tracks than I have mammoth rims.

I have a set of singletracks - also no experience with mammoths.
I've been using them for about with no issues for about 1000 miles. They've taken some pretty good hits and aren't out of true a bit - had them in the truing stand a week ago checking them. Made a couple of adjustments, but still within 1mm of true and round.
Great rims with a really crappy build (not tensioned properly, etc) won't last long. A well-built wheelset will last awhile unless something really bad happens, but few wheelsets will survive the really bad stuff.
I'm running a Mammoth on the back of my ASX. I finally had to go that way because I've demolished enough RhynoLites. The Mammoth is a proven item that's been around a long time; was the standard for DH-able rims before all the new-fangled stuff came out. I have no experience with the SingleTracks but they look like a nice rim. The draw to Mammoths for me is the price (you knew I'd say that, huh?). Lace 'em up with some good straight-gauge 14s (hint: buy a size that you can lace cross-four and they'll be mega-stout) and you'll be good to go :).

I had a mammoth laced four cross on my front wheel and I tacoed it during a practice run before the first race last season. Fortunately I was able to beat it back into usability for that day. I wasn't/am not very good. fyi.

The Singletrack and Mammoth will taco if you look at it wrong even. Save yourself the trouble and get either A Mag30 or Doubletrack.

I'm on a budget. Would MTX rims be good? They're the next up, I can get them for 150 and the mammoth's are 135.

MTX would be an improvement.
IS that 135 for a mammoth rim? If so you should be able to get it cheaper.
I have had experience with both rims, tacoed a front single track but nothing could survive what I did to it. the Mammoths are holding up prettty well at the moment. The Mag30 and Double tracks ar a heavier rim, they have the same profile as each other. Both are also very strong, I would personally go Mag30 of the Double track though as they seem to hold up better.
Also look to the Mavic 721 or 729, I think the 721 is the more weighty stronger one and the 729 is the more racey lighter version. Either way these two rims are also strong and goo weight

It's in Canadian dollars, and that's for a disc hub. I can get it $10 cheaper if I got a regular hub.
Fair enuff, Iwas thinking I was able to get mammoth for $70 AUD from my LBS in Australia.
