Advocacy & Safety - Seek advice on advocacy

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm new at this. So, I thought I'd check in with this forum. I local bike route where I live has just been changed in such a way as to make it unsafe for riders. The changes were done to open a once closed road to automobile traffic. I know what's wrong with the design and how it could easily (i.e., very low cost) be fixed, but don't know the best way to proceed or even who to approach.

If you're new to this, how do you what you think is wrong with the design is really wrong? One good way to find out is toss out the details on this forum...
Many countys have a bike coalition. I would start by looking for one in your county. If you don't find one, then you probably have a state coalition you should be able to contact for help. Many have email lists you can post to.
But I would start here, just to make sure you're not missing something...
