MY FRiend Dave does not ride much anymore and he is contemplating selling his old and beloved Moulton bike so my question is since you guys are the experts ...
were do y0u guys think is the best place to sell a Old ALex MOulton bicycle...?
PigBay..!?
special forum somewere for folding bikes like the Velo vision magazine or something like that..!?
Here at the classifieds..!?
I need to go to his house and take pictures of it this weekend, I only know is green with the beautyful triellis frame, the funky linkage suspension and the original front and rear racks, I'm also certain is the one with the 17" rims with the drop bars and not the mountain bike model with the 20" and the flat bars
well i will have pictures soon and hopefully we can get some guidance to find this beauty a new warm home
thanks
Ricardo

Is he the guy who keeps posting the AM-7 on craigslist for $1500, in the same ad with the Rebike?

Problem with the Moultons is the change hands in very low numbers so it is tough to guess what they are worth. Ultimately they are worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for them at that moment. I personally never understood the allure as much as others did. So for me they seem over priced for what you get but then again I feel that way about Bromptons too.

oh i hear you loaud and clear reason why i deside to ask here since placing a bike like this on a place like craigslist will be kind futile since almost nobody knows what it is
personally i find them absolutlly beautyful in a maurice escher kind of way mix with bucky fuller space frames but the funky size tyres will drive me crazy so i better stay away from it since i alredy have 17 bikes in my little studio apartment

so i ed up finding out that david did not have One Moulton but three of them..
so now he want to sell his green trellis and his old StowAway single speed with a coaster brake that actually break apart in two in the middle of the Boom tube....
here are the pictures of the three bikes, sorry it was super sunny so the pictures are a little wash out, i will take better ones after i finish doing tune-ups on the two of them
anyway here are the fotos..
first my Amigo david and his bike
front and rear racks
the derreiluer is a shimano ultegra i think, but i think he still have the superbe pro that came with the bike (he is looking for the original parts)
i was carring a really big box so i need to do two trips to pick up the 3 bikes
here are the other two,,the one in the front is totally gone and corroted to the core, nothing works on it.
but this one is in absolute perfect shape,, in fact it look brand new if you consider is about 40 years old
i will have a list of the part when I know what kind of parts we are going to get (find the originals hopefully) for it.
so what I need from you guys if possible is a honest stimate ad also the best place to sell them, if is not much to ask
thanks ricardo
I suggest you have them cleaned up and checked at a LBS, take some good quality photos--perhaps 10-12 different views--and list them on eBay at a 7-day auction.
Quote a reasonable shipping charge, with professional packing. Start the bids at a reasonable figure taking into account the age and condition of the bikes. I suggest you do not list them with a reserve bid, but set a reasonable opening floor, maybe $100-200 or so, unless you have strong reasons to ask for more. New Moultons (the Pashleys) cost much more than that, but they are new with all new components. These bikes are far from new or new condition.

THanks Henry that makes perfect sense...
what do you think is best for the green bike...
david have a bunch of brand new Suntour superbe pro stuff like brakes, barcon shifters,,etc to install on the bike... or just keep it as close to original as possible... !?!?

don't worry i feel the same way, I just feel lucky i'm going to work on them (at least 15 of work as a pro-mecanic) since to me they are a incredible piece of hystory and for sure machines of extreme beauty and also historical value..
maybe i end up buying at least one of them from him my self, since i find them so sexy and just fun..
be sure i will post prettyer pictures when the bikes are totally ready
"david have a bunch of brand new Suntour superbe pro stuff like brakes, barcon shifters,,etc to install on the bike... or just keep it as close to original as possible... !?!?'
Don't add new components to the bikes unless you only want to get rid of them. Suntour components have an active and interested collector and user market, particularly among fans of vintage bikes of the pre-carbon era. I suggest piecing out the loose components (clean them up a bit) and sell them at auction on ebay, again with a reasonable floor, 7-days and no reserve, and a fair charge for shipping. Remember, good photos, both sides of any component, macro for small stuff, and good lighting for the photos.

Thanks Henry you advice is a sound and loud as a Tiko drum..
i was on the same boat about the original parts, since is preserves the vintage flavor of the machine and does not end up "COble up togheter" like if you try to update to more current technology
about the Suntour parts I'm a long time collector of the Xc-pro kind so i know exctlly were you are coming from, in Davids case the parts are totally NOS like in never being install so is nothing to really clean most of them are even on the original boxes and everything
My E-bay experience is for sure limited (I don't think i sold more than 20 thing and purchase more than 30) so i was not exited about ussing the service ut for youare right since is the best way to reach a really wide spectrum of people and also reach top price...
Pictures will be taken in a very profesional manner when the bikes are finish to showcase all the details and the incredible quality the bikes are in (they were keep on a warm (not hot) dry room for a long long time, in fact the tyres still plyable and not dry at all
thanks again for the advice
Oh one last question, do you have any idea about the target price dave can spect to get for this beautyful bikes...!?!?
I have no idea even if i'm being around bike for a long long time..
I just deleted several posts dealing with directly buying and selling these bikes.
