I'm headed to Central America and will be flying into Guatemala City and out of Panama City. So it looks like I'll be using an cardboard box to fly down there and will have to be creative on the way back. I'm going to be taking a BOB trailer and am concerned about that. Should I pack that into a cardboard box as well? Does anyone know airlines protocols on flying with bikes. I'm prepared to pay extra, but am unsure how much and with which airline. My head starts spinning when I think about dealing with the airlines. Anyones input \ exerience would be helpful. Thanks.

My guess is that you will pay around $90 for the trailer and $90 for the bike, each way.
I flew to several destinations in South America with a Bob. Never had any trouble getting it on planes- just turned up and put both bike and trailer through Oversized Luggage, unboxed.
US airlines seem to have a reputation for stiffing people with bikes. I've had good experiences with European airlines (except for KLM, who insisted on boxing the bike).
There's a site by George Farnsworth that deal with airline travel and bikes, but I've been told that it's out of date.
