Mountain Biking - Look what my dad got!

I'm SO HAPPY. My dad finnally got his mountain bike from REI with yahoo points. We also got a hitch rack by like thule that holds 4 bikes. We're looking to buy a hitch though from like a store so WE CAN GO MOUNTAIN BIKING! Is that any good for a guy thats like 5' 11'' and weighs around 170. I tried it out it has some nice marzochiss's. Thanks post what you guys think about the bike.

For a 5'11" rider, I would have gone with a smaller frame [18.5"?] but if he's comfortable on it, it's all good. Good on you for getting your dad into biking - that's awesome! Let us know how your first ride goes. :)

That bike's got clean lines and classic geometry.

Its accually a 20 inch and it fits him fine! I really like the forks. Does anyone here know any places in NorCal i live by Sac and places up here to ride? Thanks.

Sweet! I always wanted to ride around Monterey(looked like some decent trails), but I didn't have a bike at the time.:( Not sure how far away from Sacramento that is, either. Have fun, dude!:D

monterey is a 2 hour drive i think. But ive heard alot about auburn anyone reccomend a trail there?

If he isn't a regular mtb rider take it easy and don't pressure him to try anything he's not ready for.

As a dad who rides with his sons, I can tell you, ride with him as much as you can. He'll love it and it really helps your relationship. BTW, both my boys kick my a** every time.

It's really cool to ride with your family. I ride with girlscout all the time but he's gettin older now and faster. It's just gettin harder for the old man to keep up.Don't set any big goals right now with your Dad. Just get out and ride and you'll have a good time. One day you guys wil be sitting on a trail and you'll be saying " we should go to whistler,or Moab,or Pisgah." Good times for you guys.

We had a trailer hitch installed by U-Haul, and in an older thread quite a few people said the same thing...U-Haul (or their agent) were cheap and fast. They make money from people renting trailers, so of course they want everyone to have a hitch on their vehicle. Make sure the hitch fits the rack....there are different sizes.

ya my dad has ordered a hitch from uhaul and its coming in like 5 days and they install it i cant wait next weekend hopefully were going.

I am a MOM who rides with my son and other 15 yr old boys, the dad's and other moms are to woosey. It has been a great thing for my son and I, especially at the the age he is at now, keeps us close and him in a good, healthy activity. I should be able to keep up better now with my Santa Cruz Juliana!!!

Monterey is about 3 hrs from Sacramento. I'm not too sure of what is around there (Sacramento) for riding. The trails around here are pretty nice and Santa Cruz is only about 40 mins away. Tahoe isn't that far away from Sacramento (a couple of hours) and a little birdy has told me there's some really nice riding up there.

Ragardless, enjoy the riding with your Dad. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to head out with me - my 3 yr old son already wants to 'go for a bike ride with Daddy.' He's funny, he tells me to get my bike, put on my shoes, and won't let me ride without a helmet. We just ride around the driveways and sidewalks near our house. He doesn't like it much when I ride from the house to the trails - he wants to go with me!
