Mountain Biking - BMC mtn bikes

Anyone know anything about this brand? Some of the euros on here might know, they are a swiss brand. They seem very boutique and rather overpriced or i could be nuts.

What do you guys think of them? I ask because my LBS (Spin - http://www.spinbikeshop.com/ ) just started carrying them and id never heard of them before.

I've only heard that BMC make fabulous road bikes. Team Phonak used BMC frames in the last Tour de France. It looks like thier FS MTB's are DW Link designs. Should be a fabulous ride.

I don't know much about their MTB line but their RB line has a pretty proven race record in the pro peloton. The Phonak Cycling Team uses them. Their roadbikes makes use of the most advanced CF technology. I believe they're the first and the only frame manufacturer to use carbon nanotube (CNT) enhanced CF. While this isn't a pure nanotech CF structure it is dramatically stronger than standard CF prepregs. The CNT-enhanced CF that Easton and BMC uses is about a hundred times stronger than aluminum 7005 and ten times stronger than traditional ultrahigh modulus CF. The material is strong and abrasion resitant enough that the entire headtube including headset faces can be made with it instead of relying on a steel or aluminum insert as in traditional CF frames. The BMC bikes also use full CNT dropouts instead of metal ones.

I've seen them before. That 1000CHS bike you showed does seem a bit expensive for what it offers. But the top of the line hardtail bike seems in and around the proper price range. Who knows maybe it's super-precision b/c it's swiss made =P

Interesting. So one could assume that thier frames are top notch, even the 7005 aluminium mtn bike ones. Wonder if LBS is carrying thier mtn lineup, or just roadies.

Think the frame is so good its worth the extra $$ at the cost of a crappier fork (which can be upgraded later)?

The owner of my LBS has one(a Team Elite, I think). Might be an earlier model than those shown on the website. Never heard of it before that and I'm not sure how much he gave for it. He said it's pretty sweet, tho. I'll ask him about next time I'm over there, if ya want.

QBP carries them, but I think you have to be a "dealer" to be able to get them, in other words. Make an initial order of three I think.
That's all I know, except they look pretty damn sweet.

I called the LBS, they have frames in atm, but can special order the bikes. Im gonna drop in tomorrow and have a look. If the frames really are that good, id seriously consider one as no matter what i get, i expect to upgrade the fork (probably to a RS Reba) before the year is out anyway.

Also, google is no help. Anyone know anything about "Scor" parts? My best guess is they are BMC in-house parts of something. Namely the following -

Sorry it took so long. I didn't have a chance to go to the LBS until today. Luckily, the owner was there and I got to ask him about his bike. He races, and he said that BMC was the fastest HT he's ever ridden. I don't remember how light it was, but I don't think it was much more than 20 lbs. He had a full XTR group on it. However, he has broken that bike down because he got a Titus FS to race with. The BMC was awesome, but he said he wanted something to better soak up the bumps. He also said that he's ridden some of the BMC FS bikes and they're really nice, but he hasn't actually given 'em a good thrashing.

Anyway, the HT is sweet...light, but stiff and very fast. Might be too stiff, depending on the terrain and how much punishment your arse is willing to take. We have a lot of rooty, rocky stuff around here, tho. Let me know if there's anything thing else you'd like to know and I'll try to find out. I didn't get to talk to the owner for long today.
