I was in my local outdoor shop (Field and Trek - www.fieldandtrek.co.uk ) at the weekend and came across a new product called 'Dampire'.

Basically it's used to dry clothing and shoes and was originally designed for divers. Just place the dampire product in a plastic bag along with your clothes and a few hours later they'll be dry and smell free. It can then be recharged on a radiator, in a microwave or conventional oven.

It cost £25 UK (About $40 US) I didn't buy it as I was a little sceptical.

Has anyone used this product?

I've now done a little research on the interent and it does seem to work. Could be handy to use to dry clothes at work without the place looking like a laundry ;)

Also handy to stop the odour from the shoes becoming a problem in wet weather! (I'm currently using newspaper to stop this one arising...)

I think it's could be silica gel in a bag, any comments?

Anyhow, here are a couple of links about it:

I might purchase it this weekend and give it a try-out. If it stops some of the people making stupid comments at work it'll be a blessing :)

Sounds very much like Silica gel (or a variant of) to me. It would have to work on the same principal as Silica Gel of absorbing the water and then expelling it when it is 'recharged' by heating.

Never heard of it guys, but I'm thrilled about any creative idea that addresses my unique needs!

I have not tried these, but would be interested in hearing how they turn out.

A few weeks ago, I was riding home in a rainstorm and my boots filled up with water, so I went to the store and purchased some "Seal Skinz" (neoprene socks).

My wife pointed out to me that the reaction of a sensible person to soaked feet is to get out of the rain.... not purchase rubber socks.

Since she knows me better than almost anyone, and she doesn't always "get it". I despair at explaining it to the public at large.....
