Commuting - Organized rides in addition to your commute

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am curious the types of other rides you do in addition to your commute.

I am more particular about weather for weekend riding. If I do go out, which is not often enough, I head out for 30-50 mile rides on my road bike or on the tandem with my fiance.

Touring is my objective in my training. Just commuting to work would not keep me ready for either long tours or the ocassional weekend race/ride... I go on like two multi day tours per year and maybe 3-4 organized rides.
Have to do more than just commute to stay fit. I just am not satisified without my 150 miles a week...Minimum... To get to that figure I will use my trainer if I have to or even go out at night.. Other than that, I do my Total gym routine. All to constantly be ready for any given organized ride or tour.. Here, such does not have to be just in the Summer- so staying ready for organized tours is a year round thing...

I usual stay away from road biking because it's too close to bike-commuting. I run and MTB as much as possible.

I ride solo most of the time, but I will go if invited, Sundays I generally ride with others.

I try to put in at least one 20 mile ride a weekend but I go as far as 50 mostly solo since I really haven't found anyone as addicted as I am. I do manage to find a partner about once a month. And usually around this time of the year I tend to take a fewe weekends off just for a break (I commute year round 5 days a week) I do a few organized rides a year ranging from 30 miles to 200 miles. Hey Sailguy what about you do you like to ride off commute?

i commute alone, but most of my other riding is group riding.

i lead a group MTB ride Wednesday nights - 2 1/2 to 3 hrs or so.

on weekends i do long day-long tours in the Alps between 1600 and 2500m vertical- usually with my club so 2-10 riders -- in summer at least 1 weekend day, but often both.

in summer, during my peak training i ride durng the week at least one additional ride - short, maybe for intervals - often alone.

i ride probably 40% MTB, 40% commuting, 10% road bike. in summer i race, but only about 1 race a month. i also do extended tours like i did an 8-day TransAlp tour with 450km and 15,000m vertical (i was a guide). this spring i am doing training and will be a German-certified MTB bike tour guide and will be leading groups.

i do tons of other sports like running, xc skiing, hiking/climbing, volleyball, cycling, plus i lift weights - used to be 4 times i week, then 2 times/week and last few months once a week :( i just moved and now the fitness studio is not next door
