Mountain Biking - Weight distribution

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I heard, probably from posts in this forum, that the "correct" way to ride is to have your legs supporting most of your weight when pedalling. Now, how could you possibly ride for hours with your legs supporting most your weight . Wouldn't it be more logical to put most of your weight on the saddle?

You misunderstood what you read. Yes, most of your weight is supported by your butt.

There are certain situations where that does apply. But for the most part sitting works really well :)
You maybe have been listening to the scuzzy downhillers around here, they never sit down. For XC stay on your saddle most of the time...
