Mountain Biking - what do you ride when you cant trail ride?

somewhere along the way, i've i've progressed fom a comfort bike to a hardtail to a trance 3. Now if I have three hours,its first choice.
But, what do you ride when your garage is the trailhead and you have only an hour or so.I've been
spoiled by the better components as I bought each new bike and don't want to buy entry level components again. But my old sedona sure was fun to cruise the neighborhood on.

ummm a road bike?

The garage sales in this area have been kind to me. I have a 85 Ross 290S for light road work, a Trek 720 for upright travel and my favorite, an 89 Nishiki with a fork conversion for riding MUPs. Now all I need is the time to ride them.

My garage is a trailhead to a network of in-city singletrack that I can ride for as little as 1/2 hour, or can go for the full day. So I basically ride either the Coiler, or the Rockhopper (or the Peugeot when I finally fix it). If I really feel like a road ride rather than trail riding (which is rare), I'll ride the Allez.

I never trail ride. I ride roads on my mountain bikes. Mainly dirt and gravel backroads.

If I have limited time, like an hour, I like to trail run instead.

I don't. I can't do roads (fire or concrete), it puts me to sleep. I have recently taken up skiing to occupy my adrenaline junked out mind. Its fun because at this point green runs give me a jolt, where on a mtbike I need some pretty sketchy stuff to get my heart pumping.

I've taken to riding the fixie around the neighborhood when time is limited.

+1 to the road bike, or there's a velodrome 5 minutes from my house, but I'll need a track bike for that. Um - I gotta go bike shopping. L8R!

Ahh now if I had a velo drome, thats something I am interested in trying...yehaw..or an indoor dj park...I wouldn't need to ski haha

Actually, I'm not from Burnaby. I live in Calgary. I've just been here for two weeks working on a big project out of our Burnaby office. No bikes and I have been working long hours, every day....even right now.

Thats too bad. Burnaby mountain has some nice xc trails on it. Evensome freeridish ones. Too bad about not having bikes

Well I will be back out again probably in a month or so. Hopefully next time I'll have more lead in time to get a bike packed up to bring along or I guess I could rent something.

I don't get it, why can't you just go for an hour long ride on the trail if its right at your door?

I find the nearest unfinished new sub division and hit the dirt on my heavy-A**ED CCM Shock Wave ll Full Suspension.Its heavy but i like the workout :D

Or even hit up some of the bike shops. Burnaby mountain is supposed to be a good trainer for the shore. I don't know how true it is, but I keep meaning to get down there to ride it. Besides bikes are allowed on transit, so you are even close to the shore mountain. 12 minute sky train, 20 minute ferry, 15 minute bus ride and then ride up the mountain and down :D...

Thanks Mael...I'll have to come prepared next time. And hopefully I'll have more done on the project so the workload will be lighter! Maybe I'll schedule a couple of extra days so I can get some full days of riding in.
