So check it out. My mom is going on vacation to Florida, and didn't want to pay the parking at the airport, so she asked me if I would take her car for a week. So, I thought I'd drive it to work today. Now, it's been 6 years since I've had a car, so it was really weird. I hated it, because it seemed like I was watching TV, it just seemed "too easy," or something.

(Figured I'd post this on the forum where people understand where I'm coming from, so they wouldn't flame me for being "self-righteous" and all that jazz.)

I'm in almost the same situation as you, Kris. (Vis a vis both the car and ILTB! :))

I borrowed my dad's car as a favor to him, and ended up driving a little bit. Lately, i have ridden my bike exclusively for the last five or six days. Today I'm driving because I'm chickening out with the high wind warnings (> 50 mph!) and tornado watch we have in effect. The funny thing is, I usually enjoy riding in extreme conditions, once I get going. I really admire the dedication of the millions of bike commuters who ride in every day, even when they own a car.

I noticed that the traffic gets much worse on snowy days, and that bike traffic noticably decreases. Its nice to know how much of an effect biking has. In the past 8 months, I've ridden in a car exactly three times. I don't remember the taxi ride, but both other times felt exceptional strange. At home I don't drive, but find myslef riding in a car almost weekly. Here, I don't even know anyone who has a car. Its nice to know that another world is possible.

I'm probably going to be taking a break from car-free, as I'm now recovering from an encounter with a motorist. I'm sure it'll feel really strange, and horrible...

My wife and I get car sick now. No car, so we only get to ride in at special events like the staff Christmas party (too fancy and too far, although we could go earlier and change... hmm maybe next year) and family get togethers.

I've been commuting for 6 years now - in the beginning I took the bus in winter - but the cost! So I started waiting until it got "bad" before taking the bus. Last year I think I took it once. I haven't this winter.
