Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello noname. You have lots of options, but at 5" you will be a little limited in your riding. Don't get me wrong that can be plenty, but today's freeride bikes have a little more travel than that. A good place to start researching (besides here) is:

www.mtbr.com

Spend some time there and read the reviews of the bikes you are interested in. Also a little more info might help, as in weight, budget, and what kind of riding you think you might want to do. Today's XC bikes have about the travel you mentioned, but if all I had was a stiff Huffy that's what I would be out there riding...

I do not know how hard you will be riding but here a few places you could check. All 3 manufactures make good bikes. Some of them do have more travel then what you are looking for.

Kona (http://www.konaworld.com/2k3/2k3bikes.cfm)

At the Kona page check the bikes under their Out of Bonds models.

RockyMtn (http://www.bikes.com/2003/freeride.html)

Devinci (http://www.devinci.com/eng/choisir/1341.htm)

Brodie (http://www.brodiebikes.com/2002/flash_index.html)

At the brodie site look at their Freedom series.

 :roflmao:

I did not prof read. Good one.

No. I am not a Canadian at heart. They just make some great bikes that can handle hard riding.

On that note the banshee scream and balfa both make tough bikes too...the banshee is only a freerider..I have heard it pedals like crap...the balfa is sweet and rides oh so nice...

Enjoy...you have a million bikes to choose from...the scream has more travel then you want I just like to look at it every once and a while :)

Like I said it is what I have heard. I have only seen the bike, not had a chance to ride one. You are the only rider I have heard say it pedals well :)

Also, don't forget about the Giant AC series. Excellent bikes for the money. They are relatively inexpensive compared to most freeride bikes on the market and have adjustable rear travel (5.5 - 6.5"). The only downside to the bikes is that you can't put a dual crown fork, well, you can but it will void the warranty.

A different forum. (http://ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39015)

I spend a bit of time on there and for the most part I see negative reviews on pedaling. Don't get e wrong. the bike is seriously kickass. If I had the cash I would grab one (btw the three bikes asked about in that thread are in my top 5 bikes to own).

I assume most people who claim to pedal it poorly are either weak or haven't adapted. It was built for the shore where pedaling is required :)...(I was the one to recommend it ;))

Hey noname1234, I have a 2001 Specialized BigHit Pro frame that I'm trying to sell. I'm asking $900 for the frame and fork. The fork is a Marzocchi Jr. T. Are you looking for other parts as well? I have a set of disc brakes and wheels for sale as well.
