I recently bought a secondhand Sun EZ Sport AX, as myTrek Navigator "Comfort Bike" was becoming less comfortable and I wanted to switch to a recumbent.

Generally I like the EZ Sport, but have encountered a nagging problem of "Handlebar Creep." Although I have tightened the allen bolts as much as possible, as I ride a few miles the handlebars creep down until they are hitting my knees. When further tightening did not solve the problem, I removed the handlebars and wrapped them with black plastic tape where they connect to the stem. This did not help. Currently I have wrapped emery cloth around the handlebars, underneath the spacers, and this seems to help.
Does anyone have a better solution?

David,
I checked the EasyRacers forum and found this thread:

Owners have used various shims, and Sun will supposedly send you some shims if you write them. (Hidden message: it's a known problem.) I presume you can come up with an address...

My EZ Sport AX came with two serrated shims that wedge between the hamdlebar & the stem. I do have to keep the allens snug, but there is no creep. Write them and get the shims. bk

I sent an e-mail to support@easyracers.com explaining the situation, and they have mailed me a new set of shims. The Sun shims were smooth on both sides, whereas the Easy Racer shims are serrated on both sides. I have replaced the Sun shims with the Easy Racer shims and the handlebar is now held securely. Thank you Easy Racers!
