Currently I'm too lazy to go up to CP for the monday rides that people are talking about, but i live blocks from prospect and i have off all week. Anyone also around here feel like riding? maybe some sprints and stuff but I've been off my bike due to medical for a while so i am still trying to get back in business.
I'm in prospect heights. Hopefully all these rainy day forecasts will go about the same as today's downpour that didn't exist.

Evan-Wed night and Fri[day] sound cool, 3rd st entrance?
Raw- 10 Pm or AM?

The races sound cool, hopefuly I'll be able to do them soon, what are they usually like as far as distance or pace or however you would describe them? I used to club ride, but havent really done any racing, definitely not on the fixed gear, it's still pretty new.
Got it to replace my Allez Comp Cro-Mo that some !$@# sawed in half. They didn't get any parts though, so i put them all on a new frame blah blah blah
and I'm done.

During the Fall the races were typically 4 lap relays with teams of two (so each person did two laps). Throughout the winter we have been doing two lap individual scratch races as no one wants to stand around waiting in the cold.

The pace can get as fast as a 23-24 mph average.

It's so sad that I have no idea where Prospect Park is. I think it's within 20 blocks of my house. Damn, i really need to get a life outside of my job. Before I leave NYC I will ride there at least once. Really. One of these weekends when it's actually nice out.

Yes, it is a great park. Kinda nice that it is in Brooklyn so not too crazy when the nice weather hits, as opposed to CP.

I am up for riding though in the meantime on my daiily beater.

Im a loser so im there about 5 days a week so long as i don't get bored and head to zCP, just riding around, and then i go to r&A cycles to drool over some road racing stuff, or b&N to read some books and mags. So whenever this gettogether is, ill be there.

Hey - I've been using noumena9's "lesstraffic+lesssimple" (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=2332217#post2274883) route to get out to propsect park at night and it's pretty good.

Anyone know of a good way back from prospect to any of the lower manhattan bridges during the day? Bedford avenue to the williamsburg bridge is nice at night, but traffic and pollution make for an unhappy rider during the daytime.

I wouldn't an extra 10 miles each way if the ride was nice.

Vanderbilt Ave, left on Bergen St., right on Smith St (which becomes Jay St). That'll take you to the manhattan bridge.

That'll take you to the manhattan bridge.

Thanks Yo.

Someone said the MB path is closed? Last time I used it was about 8 weeks ago. Anyone cross the MB recently?

...and bike path is on the south side of the bridge, right?

edit
duh... I just looked at a map Manhattan and brooklyn bridges are right next to each other on the brooklyn side.

Here's a map to your route (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=79526)

I ride the MB daily and it hasn't been closed, nor was it this morning. For the Brooklyn Bridge you'd just need to make a left at Tillary St.

we did 3 last time starting around 6:30 or 6:45 . Car traffic wasn't too bad in the park and I still managed to get home while it was a little light out.

i just got back from pp and i have a question: which side of the road is it more polite to ride on when the park is closed to traffic. usually it's ride on the right pass on the left, but it seems the slower riders stick to the right, which makes passing on the right seem more intuitive. and why do people feel the need to play football in the middle of the road when there is a whole freaking park!?

eat_raw
04-13-06, 03:37 PM
I pass on the right, in most cases, as the bike lane (used by peds during non traffic hours) is on the left.

Hello good people. I started biking on a regular basis last year but a death in the family sidetracked my routine. I intend to bike every day after work at least 1 lap around prospect park and wanted to know exactly whats the distance per lap of prospect park?

went to pp when the sun came out, did a few laps, didn't see any bikers, but did see a hot chick roller-blading. Went to r and a aafterwards to pick up a few co2 cartriges, and saw a customer owned slick black no labels bike with alot of gold bling and a black tt protector, haven't met everyone here, so is this anyone on the boards? (Didn't get a chance to see the owner before he rode the bike out) If so, very, ..... very nice bike.
