I know, I know, yet another bike comparison thread. Well this one's all about speed.
I just got approved for a 2k loan and am looking to build an XC bike up from the frame.
I'm looking at either a Kona Kula Supreme or a Giant XtC alloy frame. I'm a little rough on my bikes so I don't want any carbon fiber crap. The one thing holding me back from the XtC is the inability to put my King headset on it. Is this rational? Which is better? Which is worse?

I think Giant makes an adapter for conventional headsets, but you better check that with a Giant dealer.

i would def. get the xtc.. but i would much rather look into the xtc c2 which is carbon.. its not much more.. but is much much better.. imo

Either could be a great build. I ride an XTC Comp1. it's my opinion that what makes it fast isn't so much the weight of the frame as it is the weight of the wheelset and tires, and of course the engine
