Triathlon - lake placid advice?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So my question is this drop bars with clip ons or full aero setup for lake palcid? the only reason I ask is because of the amount of climbing involved. might be more effective to run drops? I'll hopefully ride the course a couple times and then make a final decision but I wanted to see if there were any opinions
It is the one race I've heard road bike, but for sure you should ride the course. I just can't imagine a road bike ever being faster but who knows

I road my tri bike when I did Lake Placid.
I think you could do road bike in this race because it is REALLY hilly (beautiful, and hilly) and there are not really any long flat stretches.
Plus, there can be terrible wind.
And Rain.
And heat.
HAVE FUN!

I have done the race three times, always on a road bike. A tri bike would be fine also but just remember you have one substantial climb and one long descent that may make the road bike better suited.
Good Luck!
I did it on a tri bike last year. The first year I had a tri bike. No problem switching over or on the hills (other then me). I do enjoy the downhills. The long descent into Keane I was holding 49 mph :)
