Folding Bikes - Spam or much apreciated service ?

I was wondering... whats the fine line between Spam and much wanted info...

I am a little specializing on hard ( harder ) to find parts for folders. Of course it should be folder specific, no doubt. I have no problem answering to somebodies post, if he looks to buy a certain product, which he has a hard time finding and I have it in stock....

but for example this one.... I had a tough time aquiring MKS folding pedals , especially the clippless version. It took me almost 3 months to finally get my hands on some. They were almost impossible to find and people were looking for them ....

Now would folks be offended if I post : MKS Clippless CUBE pedals finally available and than add the link to my website ???????????????

SImilar are the new 20 x 1.5 Schwalbe Racers , same story , or the Dahon EL Bolso bag ( fits all bikes )

Hmmm. Good question. If you can help out people wih the gear they are looking for, I say you are a smart salesman, who is willig to invest his money in things people really want, not things marketing guys are 'pushing' you to buy. It helps you earning a buck and it helps the customer. As long as you don't start like:" I have this, I have that, it's the best...."
Informing people with what you have available in your shop is not SPAM.

So go ahead man, but keep it decent ;)

It's probably better to check with BikeForums' official policy.

To me, product info is fine, but the minute one says "Also I have it in stock," that has reached the point of salesmanship which is not allowed. If someone points to your web site, then what can anyone say? However, I hope you don't go creating multiple identities just for this purpose. ;)

Are you selling these items yourself, or just mentioning that they are available somewhere else?

I would just post the info and a link to your website in your signature area.

I have always appreciated your helpful posts in the past, Brakemeister in these forums as well as the Dahon forums. I do not find them offensive in the least. Spam is unwanted contact in cyberspace-usually through a great flood in e-mails. I simply need to be prewarned by clear and descriptive titles the topic of a given thread. That way I can screen my own incoming and outgoing communications. Even in the large urban centers, there are few bike shops that even understand or care to understand the unique needs of folders and their accessories. That is why I turn to mail order. Yes I understand businesses must make a profit-and the best way is by word of mouth (or posts in cyberspace). If they don't, we the owners of folders and other not-the-norm bicycles lose far more in the ability to maintain our bikes in a safe and timely matter-plus just simply increasing our knowledge and appreciation of folders and other bikes. I also tend to purchase alot of my components and accessories over the mail in my real name-not my username. So I probably would not be known for that type of financial support (I am sure there are numerous others like me who do the same thing). The only bicycle item I don't purchase through the mail is a complete bike.

Isn't this one of the reasons or rationale for the existance of these forums?

cool.... basically thats what i thought .. no no no multiple usernames for me ... I might have registred once before on a sailing forum, as I forgot my password.. but thats is a long time ago... lol I also think that the header is VERY important for every new post...... if it is unclear. than the topic usually wanders off and doesnt give good info for the reader.

What is the policy on selling things on the forum. Once I registered I have not been able to get back
to the rules of the fourm. If, as an individual, I find a Raleigh 20 for example, and want to sell it, am I allowed
to post that here?

This is timely.
I was going to start a new on a similar topic. I don't know if a thread was ever started, but being new to the folder world, I would love to have one where we provide links to online and brick and mortar vendors, selling folder specific parts, like rims, tires etc. and general parts like pedals that we can use in the folder world.
It would also be nice to share occasional links to special deals like "this week only, Schwalbe Big Apple tires" 2 for $25 (we wish).

Any thoughts?

Advertising products within the FOLDING BIKES section of this forum is a bad precedent to start in my opinion.

I suggest advertising the pedals in THE MARKET PLACE: ADVERTISE YOUR PRODUCTS section of the bike forums. You can post there once a month. To be consistent with the rules there, you will need to upgrade to the premium membership and get your red star, but is only $25 for 33 years.
