Touring - Puerto Rico

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm thinking about going to Puerto Rico. I would like to bring my bike and ride around the Island. Is this possible?
is it safe? Where is a good place to stay? Any info would be a help. Thanks

Puerto Rico is great for biking, especially the middle of the island near Ciales & Dos Bocas. Check the 'net for paradores These are gov't subsidized Inns all over the country. While in the area, the Dominican Republic has the highest mountains in the Caribbean & astonishing singletrack for miles 7 miles
paradores gov't subsidized inn? Can you tell about them....
are they like gov't subsidized housing here in New York?
thanks.. what is a good time of year to go ???
I visited Puerto Rico several times with my family when I was younger and one time we stayed in a cottage owned by some wellknown statesman/ambassador(of course whose name I forget)in absolutely the most charming village on the ocean to the west of San Juan.As I recall it was just west of a popular fairly remote resort hotel. The village was on kind of a bay with rocky cliffs jutting out on the eastern edge into the ocean. The villagers were all very friendly towards Americans and not shy either as I recall.I don't think this was a tourist village but there were two tourist hotels fairly nearby as I recall.I would absolutely love to travel that region by cycle sometime and now that my interest is piqued I will check the internet for a detailed map and see if I can locate the name of the village and will edit it into my post if I find it. My guess is the other poster is talking about actual inns where the price ischeap due to gov't subsidies like you hear about in Europe but I guess he will corect me if I'm wrong.San Juan was fine if you stick to the tourist/Old town areas but there were some pretty bad slum type areas that would best be avoided.I think there are some national rainforest areas to the east of San Juan that might be nice to visit but I guess you would want to avoid the rainy season lol. As I said before though this was some time ago the last time I was there. PS The area I was refering to is somewhere in the vicinity of Dorado Bch. because that is the name of the resort that the village was just to the west of.By the way this area is kind of between San Juan and the Ciales area the other poster mentioned. The rainforest is the Carabbean NF but I have heard of this in regards to hiking/backpacking and it has a 3531 ft. peak so I don't know how i would be for cycling.
