So, i can get this wheelset for $199cdn (~170usd).

What are your opinions? Good deal, or could i find a better deal? Will they be better than my current Deore/X117disc wheelset

plus i would have to pay $15 per wheel to get a 6-bolt converter....

Is it worth the extra $100 to get the newer rims/hubs?

Depends, new or used? If new then yes, it is a good deal if you ride XC. The 317's are a very strong yet light XC rim that can handle the occasional 5' drop and the XT hubs are not bad for what they are. What you might want to find out is what type of spokes and nipples were used to build the wheel, that is where the builder will usually cut costs a bit. Even if the spokes are not that great and they used aluminum nipples it would still be a good set and you can upgrade the parts as needed.

I bought that exact wheel set for my wifes bike a few years ago (4 to be exact) since we were on a budget and they lasted 2yrs before I changed the spokes to DT Swiss, took the aluminum nipples and replaced them with brass nipples and the hubs are now Chris King hubs.

are you talking about the centrelock rims? Well, both wheelsets are new.

the 6-bolt xt wheelset says it has "DT Butted Silver spokes"
the centrelock rotor wheelset has "DT spokes, DT nipples"

i could also get an XTR (centrelock with included adapters)/XC717 for $329, but i think that might be more than i want to spend...

I just got a new set of the XT/317 6 bolt with DT spokes and nipples for $100 with Avid rotors. I love them to death. Very strong and laterally stiff yet light. If you are going to pay near $200 USD you may want to look at the Mavic CrossRide. You can get them for around $200'ish and they have a 3 year crash replacement warrantee...no questions asked. You can jump off a 10 story building and completely flatten them. They are slightly heavier than the xt/317's (I think) but they're pretty nice.

Either way, I am in love with the XT/317's.
