The Time ATAC Z and Crank Bros Mallet C pedals seem very similar to eachother. Anybody have any insight of the pros/cons of each...or is it just personal preferance. I hear Time's cleats can wear pretty fast because they are a brass alloy.

The crank bros have brass cleats as well.

I have the candy's and in hindsight may have gotten the mallets. The open design of the eggbeaters is marginally better in clearing mud/dirt/grit but for the most part its 6 or 1/2 dozen

The key difference for me was that you can get the ATAC Z for $60 shipped from
http://www.bikesmart.com/index.cfm?menu=browse&cid=PED&ssid=PAOHIDJPPOPPPDCB&ap=89.99&StartRow=1
Which was the cheapest I could find wherease the mallets were always more. I hope to get them in a week I hope and will post how it goes.

I have been using Z's for the past 5 years on my commute bike. and haven't worn teh cleats out yet.

Also have a friend whose decided to go for the Mallets and is having problems with disengaging the cleat once clipped in, we think that it is due to the depth of the tread on the shoes rather than the mechanism

i love my mallets, it takes me about a year or two to wear out the cleats
