Mountain Biking - New Product Review (new to me)

not sure how many of you have one of these...but just thought i would share my positive experience with it. it is great because you can spin the cranks/wheel/chain/cogs/chain ring etc to clean better

it was about 30 bucks...i don't think that is too bad considering many people just try and lean the bike against the wall while washing. plus you can use it for mild repairs and be able to spin the wheel.

I used to think this, until my first summer on whistler mountain where they require you to use pressure washers to clean your bike before returning the rental...it takes some finesse but is easily done.

yup...it's all in the angle and distance of the spray stream. sure a washer can lacerate your flesh if close enough, or it can be like a deluge of a gentle mist like 10 feet away

Best purchase I ever made. 200$ and just amazing. With 7 of my own bikes and every one of my friends to repair it has paid for itself with beer....

see other thread. i ended up just getting the BRS-50R. i anticipate it will meet my needs. i probably should have got the next model up...but i will just get a ladder out if it is too high

Yea, it's only supported on one side. Putting your full weight on it and pumping it up and down would probably ruin the chainstay.

Mono4 180mm front and Mono mini 160mm rear...then i switched lines so i could run the front brake on the right.

the 2 piece rotors do not seem any thinner. however, if you anticipate harsh riding conditions and bent rotors, than you might might want regular ones. have you bent rotors much in the past?

jensonusa.com has the Mini's with the 2 piece rotor for only 25 bucks extra...not sure about the M4.

no one has told me this and i have not read it anywhere...just my thought. that is, i think the 2 piece rotor tends to run more true than a one piece. the stiff aluminum spider you know will be true...then, if you think about it, there is less width of the steel part to warp. you know how you hear about some people getting discs that are warped brand new??

but if you think you are going to be taking hits on your rotors you might just want the regular ones. or get the 2 piece...and if you bust them, then get regular replacement ones. the 2 piece is pretty cool.

I think that's correct. As I understand it (from the automotive world, same laws of physics apply), the "floating" rotor design is less likely to warp from uneven heating of the same piece of steel.

Downside: less mass => lower heat absorption capability => floating rotors will get hotter for the same amount of braking compared to a more massive design.
