Road Cycling - what if...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was thinking, while reading the racing forums. some guy asked, what is the best racing bike? Of course, there is no one best bike, right? its what fits you and what you can afford, right?
What about team racers, say, at USPS? What if they don't like the geometry of their trek 5900? Will Trek custom build their bike? I dont think that many riders are snobby enough to complain about it, they are getting a free 5900, but what if? I also heard that Lance has strange body proportions. (realllly long femurs) Are those (normal) people out on 5900 riding a bike that isn't designed for them?
I wonder if there are custom made 5900s out there. I'd be neat to see.

Sorry to burst your bubble but there are no custom Trek bikes. To build a custom mold for the OCLV would be way too expensive to do it individually or even for a pro. The geometry of a Trek will fit the majority of the people that ride with the exception of those with largely disproportional body lengths. Lance does have long femurs but this can be overcome for someone with shorter by adjusting the seat and so forth. The overall geometry of the bike is designed for the average cyclist like us and to improve overall performance. After all, the point of making these bikes is to sell them, and why make a bike that no one can use?

It is not uncommon for a pro cyclist to ride a bike with their sponsor's decals that was built by a different manufacturer. Lance, for many years, rode a Litespeed with, I believe, Trek decals.

Are you sure. Why would litespeed allow some other brand to be advertised on its bike? Also, I've never seen a bike of Lance's in the many online photos of him that I've seen, in which there were welds on his Trek. A Trek would not have welding like the Litespeeds would. If you have any pictures confirming your thoughts I would be glad to change my mind. :)

I saw this photo in Lance's book, It's Not About The Bike. It showed him time-trialing with an aerobike which I believe is the the Litespeed Blade.
It was not that Litespeed sponsered the USPS pro cycling team but it was Trek who sponsered them. However, Trek supposedly bought the Litespeed bikes and rebadged them with Trek logo and name. Surely, Trek would not sponsering USPS pro cycling team if they were going to use Litespeed bikes and putting up Litespeed logo. How will Trek gain recognition then?
Anyhow, if any of you is still in doubt about Lance Armstrong using rebadged Litespeed, maybe you should ask the MAN himself.

Yeh I'll just call him up and ask him.. darn it I lost my address book. Anyone have the number??

I did in fact ride a Litespeed for a few years. But the Trek TT frames are way lighter and faster than the LS these days, so that is what I ride.
As For Trek not making custum frames, I am to blame for that. They made me a custom bike one year and I didn't like it, I preferred my trusty stock bike. Tyler happened to like it though, and that is why he was riding a different colored bike that year. I bet you guys don't know what year that was do you?

LOL... what do you think Ars? I doubt Lance has the time to read Bike Forums. Heck I bet he only gets like 1000 pieces of email per day, not to mention the snail mail. And don't forget his incredible training schedule.

Yeah I hear ya.... I'd probably meet him and just as I'm about to say something, I'd accidently bite my tongue and slobber on him. LOL. He's a stud. I really loved reading his book. I think it only took me two days. Could hardly put it down.
Anyhoo...

Haha, probably this Lance Armstrong was sparked off by me when I said "ask the MAN". I guess we have some guy who just reached puberty or something.
Anyway, it is quite possible for Lance Armstrong to be in this bike forums. Firstly, I read he likes to fool around online with his computer. Secondly, he could be looking for the next big thing in cycling in this forum, why not? However, would Lance only have joined in 2001?
Possibility that he is really LANCE ARMSTRONG : 40%

I don't care, no one is popping my bubble on this one :D
Ars,
In all probability, the real Lance has probably been here,
but not under his own name. As mentioned before he
likes to poke around on the net, and is always looking
at what is being said about him.
You'd be surprized at some of the folks who have been
here at B.F.
If you are really into Lance, come to Austin in October
and do the Ride for the Roses.
We should have a B.F. contingent.

Do you know how far texas is from me? And I'm i nschool in october.. :( Anyone kno his number, if he asked me to go I would TOTALLY go :D
Bad news I'm afraid.
Just for curiosity I went back and searched "Lance's" other posts. This guy's an imposter and a juvenile one at that.
I've been told that LA can be "undiplomatic" at times but referring to Jan Ullrich as a "******" and a "fat fart" is telling.
Oh well.

Well, why not do the Ride for the Roses? Yeah well, guess what, I'm in Singapore. If I could go over there, I'll be glad to do so. What's more, I get to see my favourite kinda guy, Lance Armstrong. I really did not know the kinda guy he was till I read his book. Now that I know him better, I really do hope to know him personally.
Ars,
Yeah, I lived northern Va. for 16 years so I know how
far it is. BTW if you earn enough for peloton project
LAF pays airfare and hotel... :)
You'd be surprized at where some of the riders
come from, farthest I ever heard was
South Africa! :D
Really, if you get a chance, do it, check LBSs in the
area, I'd bet there are organized trips
(its about 20 hour drive from Dulles Airport to
Dallas, about 4 hours more the Austin!).
Still, I wouldn't be surprized if LA did occaisionally
lurk here.

dulles airport in DC?? it takes 20 hours? is that with breaks or no? Cuz i tend to over hydrate before races and have to pee alot... :D if its only a day worth of driving i'm all for it. who wants to go??

LOL... if I can sleep the whole way, I'm in. Just kidding. I'd rather just fly, but I hear it's a pain to fly with a bike. A 4 man driving team shouldn't be too bad, each takes a 5 hour shift... no problemo. :)

Works for me...
Does everyone actually get to see Lance at that ride? I don't know much about the ride except that it's for cancer.
PBW
I've seen him at the last 2. Last year he started with
all of the groups, turned around and then rode with the
50 mile ride (I think that was the distance). But throughout
the weekend everyone gets the chance to see him.
The best oppertunity is going to the panel discussions,
Yeah you hear a bunch of people talking about cancer,
but hey, thats what the whole weekend is about.
I expect to see a LARGE northern VA contingent
in Austin this October.
I did a mapquest route from Falls Church va (since I
used to live there) to Austin, here's the result.
Total Distance:
1516.64 miles Estimated Driving Time:
24 hours, 33 minutes (but thats doing speed limit)

Even if the real LA did post here you guys would piss him off by spending the next 35 posts talking about him in the 3rd person and discussing wether or not he is an imposter :-)
In another thread about LA a guy using the screen name "Lance" popped in for just one post and said "yeah, I post here from time to time." Maybe that was him. Maybe it wasn't. In either case you all ignored him and went on talking about LA in the 3rd person.

that wasn't LA, it was a person named lance that posts here (irony runs thick here at bf.net ;))
anyhow does it really matter who posts here? I try to respect everyone's opinion regardless if they are a cleb or not.
