Foo - Stupid old scary house :(.

I'm laying there ready to sleep, listening to my music, when BAMF my blind shoots open, and falls off the ceiling landing on my legs. All the outside lights are on that I made sure I turned off.

Then I go to flick on my light, and the dammed thing doesnt turn on. Then their is another bang and the furnace kicks in, along with everything in my room, and I mean everything. Apperantly my room had no power, whatsoever. All three of my fish tanks were off, my playstation was off, my TV was off and my stereo was off. They all decided to turn on AT THE SAME BLOODY TIME!

Now that i've had the life scarred out of me i've decided sleep is for the weak. >:-l

Sleep is also a poor substitute for caffeine!!

I used to live in a 150yr old house that had a central room in the basement, with this very thick iron door....it was locked from the inside....and we couldn't open it up without damaging the house's structural integrity (huge no-no, it was considered a "historic" house)...talk about creepy, just looking at that door made my skin crawl.

Shortly after my mom realized that was a door locked from the inside...she demanded to my dad that we move out...so it was a short stay....kinda cool though...I miss that house.

Stop watching "Most Haunted" before you go to bed. Or call "Most Haunted" and have them do a show at your house.

My friend Dave and his partner Roy bought a house in a typical suburban neighborhood about 10 years ago. The house was maybe 40 years old. When you walk through the front door, the stairs to the second floor is immediately to the right and takes a sharp left turn once you reach the top. There's only a large closet on the right. The stairs are made out of exposed brick and the landing is tile. Shortly after buying the house, they were getting to know their new neighbors and one of them mentioned, "Oh, you bought the haunted house...." Dave asked what he meant by that and the neighbor told him the story..... A woman had died in the house about 20 years ago. Neighbors who still live on the street will remember that the "official" police report says the woman fell down the stairs and died. However the neighborhood legend has it that the husband pushed her and thus the woman was murdered. There's no denying the woman died of injuries sustained from falling down the stairs, but what was it murder or accident?

After settling into their house, Dave said that they noticed the closet door at the top of the stairs would be open sometimes. So they agreed that anytime they go into the closet that they consciuosly make sure the door is closed when they're done. But every once in a while, the door would be open. It got to a point where they would make sure each time they go up or down the stairs that they'd pull on the doorknob to make sure the door was securely shut. But, the door would sometimes be open. They even had the door, door frame and door jamb checked by a contractor who deemed it fine.

Now here's the creepy part...... they own two cats. Both are very friendly and cool and don't display the usual neurotic behaviors of cats. One cat refused to even go to the second floor and just lived downstairs. The other cat would stay on the very left of the stairs when going up, and just as he neared the top, he'd bolt around the corner and take off like a bat out of hell as if he's freaked out by the closet. When coming down the stairs, he just runs full speed and once he reaches the bottom, he's back to normal again. You know how they say that animals have a sense for things we can't see/feel/touch......

On one occasion, Dave and Roy had an argument and Dave left the house. Roy took a nap and when he woke up later he thought Dave had returned because he heard sounds in the house that gave the impression that someone was home. Since he was still feeling bitter about the argument, he just stayed in the room. About half an hour later Dave came home, much to Roy's surprise. Roy told Dave he thought he was home already because he'd been hearing sounds in the house and Dave said, "no, I just came home now." So they both looked around the house but didn't find anything amiss or unusual.

Other than the cats and the weird closet door the house was fine. But they eventually sold the house and moved, not because of the house itself, but because they couldn't afford to live in the area anymore. They haven't heard anything about the house so apparently it hasn't been the Amittyville horror for the new owners, but they like that they have a fun story to tell.

Man, thats not something you want to hear when you buy a house, jeesh, neighbor should have keep their mouth shut.

I thought part of buying a new house was disclosure about anything that might've happened in the house that might give the buyers pause such as termites, mysterious or unnatural deaths, hauntings, etc. It might affect the sale price, but it's also fair to provide this info prior to purchase so the buyer can determine for themselves whether they still want the house or not.

I know a guy that bought a house where the owner had been murdered. His wife had hired a guy to kill her husband. The killer waited in the house and bludgeoned the guy with a baseball bat. It took 10 years before the house could be sold. There were still bloodstains on the upstairs walls. That upstairs bedroom door will not stay shut; you can close it and even hear the latch catch but 10 min. later it'll be open. Kinda creepy.

It depends on the state. Some states, such as Alabama, are caveat emptor, buyer beware. The sellers are under no obligation to disclose anything about the house. So when you buy a house you do an inspection, an appraisal, a survey, and the lawyers do a search to make sure there's no liens on the property. As for deaths in the house, ask the neighbors before you buy.

My old house I was born in and lived till I was 7 gave me nightmares alot when I lived there. Some maid/house cleaner fell into the pool and drowned in the deep end. People think her b/f pushed her in. Now here at the new house i never really have any.=)

When a guy that lived in the apt. bldg. across the street from me committed suicide in his bldg., there was absolutely no hesitation by all the people that rushed over to rent his apt., including me. Many of the people that applied read about it in the paper, others were just passersby who saw the commotion and others were people in his bldg. looking for a better apt. I don't think the possibility of ghosts frightened these people.

I wouldnt have cared aboot structural integrity, i'm curious. That door WOULD have opened, whether I needed an acetylene torch or not.

You need someone to bless the spirit(s) in that house. What are you gonna do? You could also try to negotiate with them to leave you alone :eek:

Hey, your taxes help fund local churches (who don't pay taxes) which, in turn, can help get rid of ghosts :o

Within a week of us buying our 1962 house, a then 12 year old boy from down the street yelled at me when passing that a guy had died in the house. I replied that yes I knew that the original owner had died in his sleep at the age of 76. I then asked the kid if he knew how many people had died in his 1912 house. He ran off like a shot.

Last I heard the kid was trying to make a living as a cellist in Vancouver.

That one REALLY creeped me out

We have a couple of benign manifestations that I know of in our home. A few years back when for some unknown reason I was getting up at four in the morning, I would come downstairs and sit at my computer with just a task light lit under my monitor shelf. My desk faces the path from the living room to the kitchen and on numerous occasions I would sence a pressence and out of the corner of my eye I would see this flowing translucent purple manifestation move frrom one room to the other.

Other members of my family have reported similar experiences with olny casual prompting from me. Leading questions like: "Hey, has anyone noticed anything that might seem out of place when your downstairs alone in the quiet?" They've all reported seeing unidentified manifestations.

Also, occasionaly we'll have one of the spirits of one of our deceased pet rats make a showing by scurring acroos the living room floor or curl up in our lap or on our shoulder. You can't see them but their pressence can be felt
