I woke up and fixed a nice pancake and egg breakfast for myself. Last night, Judy had told me she didn’t eat heavy breakfasts and would probably just eat cereal. As I finished cooking, Judy came in and fixed herself a yogurt smoothy. We sat down for breakfast and talked. She told me she’d be going into North Bend, south of here, to run some errands and take Spanish lessons. She recommended I go check out the sand dunes to the west. There is a park that is on the highway that had a trail system that take you over the dunes and eventually to the beach. So around 11am, Judy gave me a ride to the park and I started on the 6 miles round trip hike. I hiked through a path and checked out the nice flora. I saw manzanita bushes that I hadn’t seen since Cortes Island in Canada. I got to the sand dunes and walked about 2 miles over until I reached another trail system that went through a small strip of vegetation. The dunes were great. Walking on them made me feel as if I was trudging through some kind of desert. The wind had sculpted these tiny grains of silicon into these massive rolling structures. When I walked through through the patch of vegetation near the ocean, I noticed mushrooms growing all around. I took some photos and continued on to towards the beach. I walked up and down the beach for a while and then practiced a little hacky sack in the sun. It was such a peaceful atmosphere. I laid down and relaxed for a while near the water and then got out my journal and wrote for a bit before heading back to the park. It was a nice walk back. I followed my footsteps most of the way back in. It was a short walk back to the turnoff to Lakeside. I only was passed by one car before getting picked up. A nice couple gave me a ride all the way back to Judy’s house even through it was a bit out of their way. They were talkative and curious about my trip. When I got back to Judy’s, she wasn’t home yet so I relaxed and popped in a movie. I thumbed through the Servas book and wrote down the California hosts’ emails on paper so I could send out a message soon and tell them I was headed their way. After my movie ended, I saw that Judy had arrived. I went over to say hello and she started fixing dinner. We had salmon burgers, broccoli, potatoes, and a nice salad. We talked and watched a little news after dinner. I checked my email and then we had some pumpkin pie and ice cream for dessert. I said goodnight to Judy and then went to the guesthouse to watch a movie before bed. I put in 2001: A space odyssey by Stanley Kubrick. It was a pretty bizarre film to say the least. I decided to make it a double feature and put in Desperado. After the movie, I took a nice hot back and then went to bed.
