I'm re-outfitting my rain bike, giving it drop bars and vbrakes, and I cant decide on whether to use my old suntour barcons or may old suntour command shifters (both friction). I imagine that I'll be on the hoods most of the time, so the commands have a plus right there, only the commands don't have the nifty ratcheting mechanism that the barcons do. Plus, I haven't used the commands before, so I'm not sure how easy it is to shift in both directions fron the hoods (or the drops for that matter). Then again, I've only ever used the barcons plugged into the ends of bullhorns, so I dont have expereince with the suntour barcons on drop bars either.

Also, This bike has the cable routing on the top tube, so the barcons might be a bit awkward.

I'd go with what I know. I've got significant experience using barcons and I can't really come up with any significant drawbacks to using them. Command shifters, at least for me, would be an unknown quantity.

I don't think you'll have any issues with cable routing to the top tube. I think that I'd run the cable housings about one inch up the bottom curve and that should point them right at the top tube.
